The Evil Dead-ian influences throughout this video always made it a favourite of mine.
Despite desperately wanting to see this back in the mid-90s, I still haven't seen this. And I hadn't really thought about much in the last many years. This will serve as a reminder to seek it out.
One of my favourite films of 2010.
Absolutely one of my favourite films.
Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina.
One of the greatest opening credit sequences you'll find.
Good light fun. Emma Stone wins me over yet again. Hopefully there's more leading roles to come.
I've only seen one scene from this film... I rate that scene a solid 4.5 mubi stars.
Kung Fu Hustle, where have you been all my life? Or at least these last 6 years or so... It took me far too long to finally see this, but I really dug it. Fun fun fun.
Like others, I find her public persona very grating - in interviews, via her lifestyle website or her child-naming skills. And I haven't been drawn to most of her major films.... But she's given a few truly interesting or vulnerable performances (Hard Eight, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Two Lovers) that I can't help but be overruled into clicking that "Become a Fan" link on her page here, since I suppose we're not grading an actor's personal life here. Also, her final scene in Seven (though only implied) was pretty powerful too.
I'm sorry, guys, but I can't be impartial about this one. As a basketball fan, I've been following Kobe Bryant's performances since the first entered the league, so don't expect more than one star for this film. Spike got duped.
Oh, how I appreciate the films of Christopher Nolan. The themes he regularly explores (deception, misunderstanding, "what is real?") are always exciting and Inception was yet another strong entry to his canon. I'm not yet sure where it ranks among his stellar work... I'm just happy that a cerebral filmmaker like him has gained so much pull in the studio system for now. I can't wait to watch it again.
A pivotal film in cultivating my film tastes, in that it immediately identified a genre of film that I knew I despised - the uninspiring inspirational story where one person can change the lives of everyone around them (and learn something about themselves in the process!) - ala Mr. Holland, Dead Poets, Lean on Me. I think the only movie I've enjoyed (and how!) of this ilk is the great Hard Nelson.
One of the weirdest, most surreal vanity projects you'll ever see. Not available on home video/DVD but I caught it once on late-night TV a few years ago. Worth seeking out for its absurdity.
Man on Fire is the absolute epitome of the pink-hatted one's manic, over-the-top, testosterone-filled, over-stylized films. Love it.
I always confuse Female Convict Scorpion Jailhouse 41 with Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion (http://mubi.com/films/22835) - hard to imagine why... I haven't seen the later but mistakenly rated it earlier, thinking it was this one. Confused yet? I am.
How is this man's entire directorial catalog of great guilty pleasures not on the mubiteurs yet? Crazy/Beautiful, Blue Crush, Into the Blue, Turistas. All great to look at. All make you wish that you lived by the ocean.

At long last, one of my most anticipated Auteurs outcasts has arrived... for me to now give it 5 stars and move on. Fun!
Unbelievable. Puts to the oeuvre of Uwe Boll to shame. All 3 stars are based on unintentional hilarity and impressive ineptitude.
Just beautiful animation. It exceeded my fairly high expectations.
Has the honour of being the film that I took all my friends to for my 11th birthday party. I'm sure they all still appreciate the choice to this day.
2 extra stars solely for camp value.
Absolutely loved this movie. The last act may not have been quite on par with the first two, but this was a really fun throwback of a film. Any complaints about pacing are ridiculous - I found that middle section riveting. Best viewed in an empty dark house, of course.
Such a personal favourite. Thrilled that it's finally appeared at The Auteurs.
So thrilled to see one of my all-time favourite films finally arrive on The Auteurs. Just a beautiful work. Best watched in complete darkness. Maybe I'll articulate my thoughts more in the future.
This aired on a seemingly endless loop throughout my childhood on Canadian TV and I'm greatful for it. I've surely seen this film as much as any of my personal favourites (yes, likely due to its length) and do feel that my exposure to it and other Norman McLaren / NFB works helped shape the film nut I grew to be. Neighbours is outstanding then and now. Watch it.
His sole feature film (as director), CQ, is tonz of funz. I wish he'd stop with the second unit work on his family's stuff and come correct with another great film of his own. I'm very demanding of my filmmakers.
Outstanding. This film's entry on The Auteurs was long overdue, so I'm thrilled to see its arrival. The Evil Dead remains one of my favourite, most watched horror films. Hell, it's one of my favourite overall films. I'll never tire of watching it. Never.
The same DP as one of the most beautiful films of all time, Don't Look Now. But dude's been shooting mostly shit since then, so I guess that's no longer a selling point.
