Favorite Music Videos? over 2 years ago

Dougal Wilson’s videos for Goldfrapp, “A&E” and “Happiness”.

Otherwise Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze and Chris Cunningham are obvious choices.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (Nagisa Oshima, 1983) – 8/10.

It nearly made me cry, and it has Takeshi Kitano!

Favorite film composers over 2 years ago

I have a hard time picking favourites of anything, but my latest dicovery is Ryuichi Sakamoto. His scores for The Last Emperor, Babel and especially Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence are amazing.

I haven’t checked all the titles, but the DVDs seem to be region one only, so you might wanna watch out if you’re european.

Who else would you then say has the same potential, Den? Not that I disagree with the statement, I’m just curious.

Traag-1: You should! It’s my favourite Palahniuk book out of the ones I read. It’s been optioned for a movie, by the way!

Shutter Island over 2 years ago

Adam, I agree completely on the last scene. There were so many places the film could have ended, but none would have been as good as this. I think this is one of few films coming out these years that can actually carry the two hour plus runtime.

I have certainly planned a second viewing on dvd. The story deserves that and I expect to get something out of it. But five times.. in two days. Wow!

Punch Drunk Love

5.8/10 – Did not appeal to me as much as PTA’s other films. It is as technically beautiful, but the story just never took off for me. I don’t think I will ever be able to identify with Adam Sandler, I think he’s over half the reason I was disappointed.

Spike Jonze - a cult filmmaker? about 2 years ago

He just did Where the Wild Things Are without Kaufman, which is a good achievement in my opinion. I do agree though that the ‘cult-ish’ features he has are mostly products of the stories in his earlier work where Kaufman was involved.

How Many Movies Do You Watch in a Year? about 2 years ago

I only have time for about two to three movies a week. When I’m finally free during the summer the weather is too good for watching movies. :-) So a 100-150 perhaps.

I never really believe Mike Leigh could win. Having seen none of the films obviously, he just doesn’t belong in the league of two-time winners.
