Obviously, I had heard of 'The Hurt Locker', and on several occasions I have scheduled time in to watch the film then missed it for one reasons or another. Finally sat down to watch it last night - more fool me for missing this excellent, sublime, film that deals with not only political war issues and related topics, but masterfully charts the varying psychological states of the American soliders involved. Brilliant!
Powerfully atmospheric and emotionally mature film that quite literally brought tears to my eyes. If you are a fan of 'Winter's Bone' you will love this film.
Surprisingly engaging thriller-cum-man-seeking-redemption fable. Clooney is superb as the taciturn enigma who cannot (will not) allow himself to become emotionally involved with another person. Some well-worn clichés are used to maximum effect, managing to avoid pastiche. Taut script, assured direction, solid acting (my only criticism was some questionable cuts in the edit), one to recommend.
No matter how many times I watch this film (and I have watched it innumerable times) it still amazes me. When challenged I am pushed to think of a more finely crafted film. This is true 'lighting in a bottle' and its power and place in cinema history never wane with the passing of time.
I have nearly finished reading "Letters" - the insightful book comprised of letters written by the great man over four decades to friends, collaborators and anyone who had the fortune to correspond with the man. I urge everyone to read this book. It has inspired me beyond words...
In my humble opinion this film is quite simply the best take on the fragility of the human spirit. There has not been a better film about redemption in the last 18 years! Why is Abel so criminally ignored? Someone out there (in the distribution business) please get your act together and release special editions of this man's films! My Bad Lieutenant is the Black Cat edition from France... excellent DVD. More please!
Quietly and poetically brilliant!!!
