Disturbing Movies that You Love... over 3 years ago

The best part of Blood of the Beasts was the fact that there was no music during the slaughter scenes. Everything was so matter-of-fact. It would have been tasteless in color, but it’s gorgeous in Black and White.

Spirit of the Beehive over 3 years ago

In a way, yes. The cinematography is very similar. But I think the director’s intent was more to show passivity of children, and he employed long shots with little unnecessary emotion.

Can anyone think of how the beehive is a part of the childhood story? Does it relate to the innocence of childhood shown in the rest of the film at all?

It may not be an essential film of his, but try watching Truffaut’s adaptation of Fahrenheit 451. It’s not exactly faithful to the text, but its beautifully acted with some amazing shots.

Waugh’s A Handful of Dust. Vicious Satire is always a pleasant read.

A Clockwork Orange. The music is perfect with the hyper-simple red title-cards.

Greatest Films You'll Never See over 3 years ago

Kubrick’s original version of A.I. It could have been an excellent film, but when Kubrick died Speilberg just had to tack on that sagging maudlin ending. It ruined the whole tone of the rest of the movie.

Any remake of a great foreign film that Hollywood decided to Americanize. For instance, the Richard Gere version of Breathless. I thought it would be decent, but…

WHAT FILMS NEED THE TREATMENT? over 3 years ago

Killer of Sheep.
And really, the entire Kubrick catalogue should be in Criterion.
Also, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, maybe? It was the genesis of modern American horror, after all.
