IS CITIZEN KANE THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE OR JUST THE BEST HYPED? over 2 years ago

It really does depend on your definition of cinema. It’s the most important film ever made because of its technical innovations and the circumstances surrounding its conception. But, I don’t believe it can be called the greatest film ever made if you define cinema as a medium to be entertained. I believe its the greatest film ever made (though it wouldn’t make my top 10 favourites) because using that second definition would lead you to state ludicrously that jaws is a better picture than citizen kane, so for these lists, they must define through influence not entertainment.

Post your favorite scene and explain why it's your favorite almost 2 years ago

The climax of Fellini’s neo realist masterpiece ‘La Strada’ [The Road]

It isn’t my favourite, for that I’d choose Vertigo, Judy’s transformation scene with the 360 degree angled kiss. But Vertigo has been used already and besides, this powerful image from Fellini is likely to be more gripping for those who know La Strada and what causes it and for those that don’t. The latter of which will be equalled moved by the scene’s emotional resonance.

What do people think of the Village Voice's list of the 100 greatest films? almost 2 years ago

That’s a fantastic post BOLO TIE. I think we should all have a crack at reassembling a top 10. Creating a new narrative. Not of our favourite films, but the ones we consider to be the best. Avoiding the ‘master narrative’ and a self concious urge to be ‘different’.

Lists are irresistible imo. Is there really no Fellini on that list? Wow.. just wow.

Cheers Robert but that’s a list of overlooked pictures, not necessarily peoples opinions on the greatest.
