Best handheld, for me, was what the Dardenne bros did in “The Son”. They told the camera op to shoot as though they were the dead boy watching these events of his father’s life unfold.
okay, i’ve read everything. this looks amazing. i’d like to secure spot 2:01. and if 3:01 and 4:01 are available i’d like to takes those too. you won’t be disappointed. thrilled to be a part of this and wish i’d known about it sooner.
the potential of this place is vast. the best way to protect it is to keep the community open and inclusive. besides, i don’t think there is much danger in TA being overrun with a high signal to noise ratio. the name of the site alone is a filter.
2.35:1 just feels so right. i love the empty space created around the subject and the ways you can manipulate it to open up or close of their personal space.
I believe a film should be judged based on the filmmaker’s intent and how successful they were at achieving it; that’s true whether the intent was for entertainment, art or a layering of both.
Scorsese was the first director that expanded my understanding of cinema’s form — Taxi Driver specifically. Years later, Kieslowski’s Three Colors trilogy and Tarkovsky’s book Sculpting in Time simultaneously expanded my understanding for the potential of cinema’s content.
