Naomi Watts is so awesome when she's with the right director. It sounds cliche by now, but it's true: Mulholland Drive is a like a dream--so strange, yet so mesmerizing. Betty's audition scene? Wow. Club Silencio? One of the greatest scenes EVER, and such a terrific name. =)
Such a profoundly moving film. The love and pain resonating from the film are so powerful. Heath Ledger's performance here is the greatest of his career, surpassing his work in The Dark Knight. Gyllenhaal, Williams, and Hathaway also contribute memorable work, Ang Lee's direction is great, the script is flawless, and the score is incredibly haunting and poignant.
Blanche DuBois must be the greatest character ever created. Vivien Leigh goes far and above the strenuous requirements of this challenging role, and she succeeds beautifully. Seriously, greatest performance ever in film. The rest of Kazan's film is almost as fantastic as Leigh's work. The sexual tension between Leigh and Marlon Brando is so alive and intense that it pulsates in their scenes together.
Almodovar has a very fresh, intelligent perspective on love, loneliness, and loyalty. His command of color is wonderful. He's an awesome director, but I think Talk to Her is my favorite.
So brilliant, so beautiful, so haunting. Holly Hunter gives one of the greatest performances ever captured on film. Every frame of this film is genius. The whole film is rife with depth and symbolism worth discussing for hours. My favorite movie ever.
Tilda Swinton was astounding in this film. Mind-blowing. Once again she proves she's the most versatile, fascinating, inspiring actress of today.
