That was extremely upsetting. The last ten minutes are one of the most brutal sequences any person could ever be asked to watch, and the battles have a terrifying energy in them that wasn't seen again in film until Saving Private Ryan. I'm very glad that was on display for the festival. Now I want to track down Bernard's Les Miserable.
I wish there was a score less than one to give this film. It's not deep, and it doesn't reward repeat viewings. It's not a cinematic rubik's cube, because you don't need the Rubik's website to make any GD sense out of the logic behind the cube.
Granted, I haven't seen what I can't find in region 1, but I'm fairly sure he never made a bad movie. He's easily my favorite director.
