Born in 1979, Amat Escalante is a self-taught filmaker from the city of Guanajuato, Mexico. He begins to devote himself completely to cinema at the age of 15. After completing two short films, he writes and directs his first feature, Sangre, which premiered in the Official Selection Un Certain Regard of the Cannes Film Festival 2005, where it received the FIPRESCI Prize. Los Bastardos is his second feature film. This film was selected during its development for the Cinéfondation Residence of the Cannes Film Festival, and it premiered at the Official Selection Un Certain Regard Cannes 2008.
