New to The Auteurs? You Belong Here over 3 years ago

Hey everybody. I’m a parttime filmmaker out of St.louis,MO. This new site is a godsend! I remember renting Janus films from the “weird” section in Blockbuster. Just watched Bashing, Sweetie and After Life on the site. All great films. Looking forward to discussion.

Wow over 3 years ago

My question is how accurate is the film. Do they really treat people who volunteer in Iraq like that or just those who are kidnapped?.
The reason i ask is that I recently read a book called “What is the what” about a Sudanese refugee in the States.
In it he recounts his days at a refugee camp and talks about how there were a lot of Japanese aid workers and that the Japanese were basically in love with helping those who need it on the Continent.

The movie seems kind of at odds with this.

Best camerawork in a movie...handheld or otherwise. Or best use of the camera to convey the scene's intention. over 3 years ago

if we’re talking recently, for me, it’s a toss up between City of God and Children of Men.

Luiz, thanks for the info.

i had forgotten about that case.

I really liked her speech at the end. it sort of felt like a critique of Japanese society.

The longest movie you've ever sat through over 3 years ago

Russian Ark seemed a lot longer than it really was.

I think it was only 90 min but it seemed like hours because of the one long take

Do You Like Wes Anderson? over 3 years ago

I loved Bottle Rocket and I dug the Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic, but sometimes I get the feeling he’s trying too hard to have this quirky aesthetic. Like it’s almost disingenuous or manufactured. I don’t know. I still respect him as a filmmaker.

definitely talented

I’m checking out Equinox Flower. Pretty good so far. Very simple and economic shot selection.

What is your most memorable film going experience? (Only one per post please!) over 3 years ago

When I was 5 and I saw The Empire Strikes back for the first time in 1980. It was my birthday and we were late. We showed up during the Battle of Hoth, right when the AT-AT’s appeared. To me they seemed to be 1000 feet tall. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.

Equinox Flower/Late Autumn over 3 years ago

So i’ve watched equinox flower here and I’ve finally watched Late Autumn. Both movies seem to take place in the same world, with the same actors playing the exact same characters.

when I checked it out on IMDB, it seems as if the characters had different names in both which I thought as odd seeing as even some of the locations were the same.

What do you think?

also Shin Saburi is becoming one of my favorite actors.

Can any one suggest any other films that feature him. thanks
