The-girls

The Girls

Quite an austere use of the B&W medium -- more white and black if you ask me. I just got the feeling that the film stock was overexposed throughout the entire picture. Obviously, this was intentional -- suggesting what thematically? That is my question. Women are more pure than men? Not sure. Lovely to see many of the most popular female members of the Bergman troupe get together on screen sans Bergman. Charming.

I have to commend you for your excellent reviews! Your write ups on Bergman are wonderful. By the way, which movies are those stills you've featured from? I recognize Through a Glass Darkly, but not the others.

Thanks very much. The other two Bergman stills are both from 'Hour of the Wolf'.

I am currently working through Bergman's entire film ouvre, or at least the ones I can get my hands on. I just watched the Passion of Anna, I will be watching Shame, and I am getting Cries and Whispers from Netflix... I have seen almost every major film up to then... I love your Bergman write ups/ reviews... They are really helpful now that it seems Bergman is getting more metaphorical and deals with, as you called it in your reviews, "deconstruction, existentialism and personality disintegration." It is always great to see what other people think of the films, and Bergman is definitely worth a conversation.

Thanks so much for your kind words, it is always nice to know people still read my write-ups that I've posted on here. Shame is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello there. No problem. I was quite intrigued by your short films so I thought I'd add you to my list. As for the Mubi Angeleno get-together, I have to say that sounds quite interesting -- I'll definitely look into it. Cheers.

Wow thanks! I think we're aiming for something in the summer this one coming up next, see a movie and talk about it afterward. Our first get together was in a bar, fun and rowdy! And, one of the aims is eventually to find a place to screen films from Mubians and Garage members, but we have yet to coordinate that. If you think of any place, please let me know!
