With the Kaurismaki set, I’ve only been able to see Shadows in Paradise because of school and work and everything in between. Started watching Ariel last night. Shadows was good and Ariel is good so far.
Hey, I liked Toys. Most surreal, mainstream Christmas movie starring Robin Williams.
Glen or Glenda and Plan 9 are brilliant. My high-school Fiction and Film class didn’t really get it, my friend and I were laughing.
Robot Monster is good and so is The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zomies.
Manos:The Hands of Fate would be tourture without MST3K.
Kenneth Anger’s Invocation of My Demon Brother freaked the crap out of me. The images contradict each other (hippies dancing to a burning of a cat to more hippies smoking weed to Kenneth Anger conducting a midnight mass). Plus the Mick Jagger score is pretty cool.
My first Criterion was Seven Samurai. My father got the one-disc edition from the library; he started it but I finished it. Later I asked for the three-disc edition for my birthday and I got it.
This one film with Crispin Glover, Rubin and Ed needs a better DVD. The only semi-legit copy one can buy is from the director. It’s a goofy little road movie with frozen cats, pyramid schemes, hallucinations, grown men who act like five-year-olds, abandoned mine shafts, Echo-People and Republicans.
Howdy there from Montana!
I’m in high school and don’t want to go to film school. I just want to have a crappy job, quit it and start doing films. One of my favorite movies is “Schizopolis”. Keep rockin’ the free world.
F for Fake by Orson Welles. I was watching late at night, so I nodded off for litlle bit but woke up. Watched a few more minutes and went to bed. Think I’ll try to watch it again…and at an earlier time, too.
It was pretty good. I don’t like computer generated animation that much. But Pixar movies has a good streak (haven’t seen Ratatouille and I don’t remember A Bug’s Life too well). My least favorite Pixar movie is The Incredibles.
Hey there. Are there films that seem like they just don’t exist? Have trouble finding them?
For me it’s Hrafn Gunnlaugsson’s When the Raven Flies and the NJFILMCORE films.
HELP!!!!!!
I found a dubbed VHS of When the Raven Flies but I have a little bit of doubt. The guy selling it said it was rare. Could be a bootleg. :\
Thanks for replying to my post.
Even though you may hate me for saying this, I really enjoy it. It is saddening that people like that exist, not just in America. Harmony Korine presents the ideas and messages in the way of a prankster.
I know where to find a copy of Pound, Chaffed Elbows and Moment to Moment. Greaser’s Palace is horribly out of print (on Amazon, a new copy will cost ya $200.) If you want me to give you the link, drop me a line.
I think that “cult” is a buzz word that critics use. Some movies that are declared “cult” movies I think do not deserve a “cult” status while some that aren’t declared so, do deserve a “cult” status. I think that SCHIZOPOLIS, ALTERED STATES, WALKER and the films of Aki Kaurismaki do deserve that label. I guess this opinion differs from person to person.

Yeah, I have this passion for Criterion now. Pretty much every movie on Criterion (or Eclipse) is worth watching.
