Personally I’m not a fan, but do see why people enjoy them. We all know there is a society of Star Wars fanatics who memorize every frame and live there life by the damn thing. I want to find a film buff hybrid that enjoys both the Auteur driven films and also who nerds out on Star Wars. Oh… and also peoples view on it.
I was on set last week and a grip had Vertigo, Evil Dead, The Exorcist, Dr. Strangelove, Béla Lugosi, and Travis Bickle all on his right arm and was planning on getting Eraserhead on there too (and he had more I just can’t remember them all). It looked cool, but kind of seems like he might not like a lot of those films as much as he did when he got them on his arm 30 years down the line.
I myself, on the other hand, am planning to get the whole cast and crew of Juno and Back to the Future 3 on my lower back later this summer… can’t wait.
I enjoyed Van Sant’s Last Days a lot. I’m not a fan of the other two films from his “trilogy” at the time. I seem to be the only one to dig it. A lot of my friends can’t stand the thing.
For me, movies are terrible for me right before I write. I get too persuaded, it feels like I lose a since of who I really am. It’s like I have to be away from films and books completely before I write in order to conjure up something I am satisfied with. I want to examine and conjure up original images in my head rather than a still I saw in a flick that I’m inspired by at the time.
My advice is to put down any book or movie that inspires you and just think up personal shit that drives you and not to get caught up or emotionally invested into something else. I mean it won’t destroy your flick if you do… I just feel, in order to get a true ‘blank canvas’ to lay out your ideas on, you can’t have anything in your head persuading you one direction or the other.
There are a lot of movies that I see on this site and I think, “damn, should this movie really be on here?” While at the same time, I feel this site is missing some movies too. Like…
The Ninth Configuration
Docs by Mike Mills (Like Paperboys and Does Your Soul Have a Cold?)
Paul Schrader’s Blue Collar
Films by Les Blank (like The Blues Accordin’ to Lightnin’ Hopkins)
There might be another post about this (to lazy to look… fuck it) but I want to find (or other people find for me) and share great interviews of directors on youtube. Heres my favorites…
Orson Welles (one of his best interviews I’ve seen of him)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZl-a-zWV9A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x_lJChXf9M
Aki Kaurismäki
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9tp8rAaTsE
Jim Jarmusch (also with Lou Reed and Harvey Keitel)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FANQBrCg8vw
Robert Altman (god bless Dick Cavett)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZpcVU_Ugvg
Woody Allen

I remember watching 8 1/2 and I thought to myself…. this is okay, but it needs some Fergie. Little did I know someone, somewhere will answer my prayers.
