Theres so much to love about this movie, but there is also so much to dislike.
MST3K! "I'm secretly in love with Jerry too."
I hate this movie,...period.
eh, not svankmajer's best
I wanted to like it, but there were just so many problems.
This is the definition of Guilty Pleasure.
As Richard Roeper eloquently put it "Artsy garbage is still garbage". A nasty little film that has nothing new to say. I strongly recommend you avoid this film and watch either Cache or Benny's Video.
This film is eye-candy and nothing more. The sound design is awesome and the special effects are eye poping, but where does that leave the avid film goer. If the director put as much thought into the script as he does the visuals then and only then would this have been a great film.
Bottom Line: this film was what it meant to be, A great popcorn flick. I had a blast watching it regardless of it's obvious inferiority to it's three predecessors.
Superior to it's Japanese counterpart and beautifully stylized.
A Challenging film that moves and excites. Gorgeous cinematography and wonderful music choicwe only add to the heartbreak of what could very well be one of the best movies in years. To not be impressed by this film would be a gross miscalculation on ones part.
With cinematography by Vittorio Storaro and a nerve shredding score by Ennio Morricone, Argento has created a both hip and thrilling film. One of Argento's best films to date.
