nothing less than a travesty that people decided to see the expendables instead of this pulsing, vibrant, and wildly fun and overall fucking awesome movie.
Agreed, Thepha. Galifianakis is great but with anymore screen time may have ruined it. Carell is great, and he and Rudd have undeniable chemistry. Clement steals the entire film, which is very funny from beginning to end but is impossibly haphazard and stupid. Worth seeing if you like the cast, you will laugh at all the jokes if you don't mind a silly, not-so-well-thought-out plotline.
agreed. if adam sandler wanted to give spade and schneider some money why did he have to act in it too? and chris rock i thought you were a stand up comedian. ugh. trailer makes me want to kill myself.
Brandon I pretty much agree. I liked it. But I expected more and I really think some fault is with Carrey - he is usually so reliable when he breaks his usual mold but you are correct you can't even fathom comparing this to Truman Show, Moon, or Sunshine. It was too high on silliness and frivolity and too lacking in feeling and weight. McGregor was great, he continues to impress me.
Best film of 2007. An absolute masterpiece. It's beauty, savage grace, attention to detail, and tag team of Pitt and Affleck acting their asses off give this one the edge over There Will Be Blood, No Country, Eastern Promises, and Michael Clayton.
Honestly best movie of the decade. No question.
Seconded my good man!
Wow honestly Kick-Ass is a fantastic film and transcends its likely fun summer film label. Matthew Vaughn truly has alot of things going for him as a visual artist and storyteller and the acting is great especially one Chloe Grace Moretz. It is a thrill ride from start to finish and will leave you gasping. Any flaws being pointed out are worthless to point out. The movie is pure balls to the wall fun and a smart adrenaline rush and I hope it becomes a franchise. Props for the makers of this film getting it done the way they did and not compromising it was such a great time, and probably a better time than you'll have at any other movie this year.
A great example of Parker and Stone overcoming the many pratfalls that have plagued later seasons but the fact is Imaginationland stalled in 3 overblown parts and could have succeeded in 2 or even 1 episodes. It's a big problem with these guys. See the 2 part "Cartoon Wars" as another example. But some genius shit in here including the return of Man Bear Pig. Pretty awesome but a chore to get through after view 1
Seriously though where the hell is Blow Out?!?!?!
and Home Movies
Perhaps you can take solace in the fact that he won Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. It should because at this point anything is more legitimate than Oscar. That aside, anyone deriding this film, be it for dialogue, storyline, pacing, or what have you, clearly stumbled into a screening of Gerard Butler's Gamer instead of A Single Man. Because this film was one of the most beautiful and well-crafted of '09.
4 stars completely on the merits of fun celebrity excess. The smarminess of Phillipe and Gellar in this film are positively magnetic and whenever this is on cable I feel compelled to watch it, not even as a guilty pleasure. Just pleasure, and thats why I relish this film.
There are other reasons. JGL is the biggest but as far as a fun crime thriller I thought it succeeded greatly. In addition the turns from Daniels and Matthew Goode are great (Goode's career becomes increasingly interested if you've seen both Watchmen and A Single Man). Correct though, it is not brilliant. Tight writing, not necessary to watch but I think should be.
my second favorite film of all time.
IMO Scorsese's masterpiece and Robert De Niro's finest performance. Scorsese provides a master class in blending genre, technique, violence and quiet sensitivity all in a fantastic examination of the self-doubt and strive for success, selfishness and determination of the modern man. Both he and De Niro's best effort to provide nuance, feeling, and dynamic film making.
99% of the time this is my favorite movie ever. I don't care what anyone says about Wes he is a brilliant mind. And this will forever be his masterpiece. Perfect.
Such a dynamic actor in everything he does even a guest role on House. Great that Hurt Locker blew up and now he'll be nationally recognized.
Absolutely stunning and wonderful and fun and just well done in every aspect. Can't wait for the next projects of everyone involved (I hear Johnson' next movie is sci-fi) and to get this on DVD and watch it over and over again. Brody and Ruffalo were amazing. Rian Johnson is amazing. Loved it so much. Can't gush enough.
