Whoa whoa whoa! Don’t you mean Harold Zoid?! (Buster Keaton is far superior to Lloyd though.)

Scenes From A Marriage
95/100

Only my second Bergman film, but I love this one just as much as Persona. (Maybe a a smidge less.) The out of frame action is remarkable and I can’t wait to watch more of his films.

the hate corner over 3 years ago

Oh Kirsten Dunst. How I loathe you. From your weird teeth, to your intolerable “acting”. I mean, how can someone take Mary Jane Watson (a seemingly easy role) and completely dismantle it? I mean, when you call Peter “Tiger” there is no emphasis on it. No passion, no heart! THEN THEN, you ruin a story that should be great (The Cat’s Meow) with your..your….actually, I have no real reason for hating you in this, BUT I DO! Gah, I can’t stand you.

Age / Level of education? (An informal poll) over 3 years ago

I’ve switched majors too many times. Game Programming —> Game Design —> 3D Animation —> Fine Art —> Art History —> Film Making (which I think I’ll finally stick with!)

I’m destined to be in school forever. D:

Very adorable, takes a lot for me to talk during movies, but I said “Oh shit!” at the end. Beautiful and sad.

David Lynch Overrated? over 3 years ago

Mulholland Dr. is pure brilliance. It’s one of my favorite films of all time! No film has left me thinking so much and flip flopping ideas, and saying “OOHHHHHH!!!! THAT’S what that meant!” Yes, it’s a little hard to understand, but if you’re willing to sit and think about it (like I did at work) it really comes into realization that it’s a fantastic film.

Movie's you just don't like. over 3 years ago

THE SHINING
I don’t hate this, I just don’t love it. Shelley Duvall just really annoyed me.

DANCER IN THE DARK
What? I have a strong dislike for musicals, so that might have something to do with this.

1. Ability to stop email notification. (My thread gets a few replies and my phone goes off a lot.)
2. All messages under one roof.
3. New message notification on the site itself.
4. Avatars on forums!! Please?!
5. When posting a new thread, a way to categorize them.
6. A randomness topic would be nice. Can’t be about film 24/7.

If I think of more, I’ll post em.

I can understand some’s dislike of avatars, but some of us (me!) don’t look at names, and any distinct object (an avatar!) would help so we (me!) know who we’re (I’m!) talking to. I can’t sit here and look at your NAME, that takes too long, and disrupts all the flow I got going. (Even if it’s just 16×16, I’d be content!)

I have a system people!

Also, new ideas!

6. “Save For Later” feature. So many good films I’d love to watch later, but sometimes I can’t access my Netflix easily (when I’m on the go), so It’d be great if we could bookmark.

7. Put the name of the last poster on the forums. It’s not a big deal, I just like to know who the last poster was, so I don’t click on a thread that I think has been updated.

CONFESSIONS--FILMS YOU ARE ASHAMED TO SAY YOU HAVE NOT SEEN (YET) over 3 years ago

I’m not ashamed, just a little embarrassed. But there are way too many to say that I haven’t seen. My excuse? I started getting serious in this film business only last year. To name a few:

12 Angry Men
The Big Sleep
Alphaville
Metropolis

I can go on for days. :(

Films that changed how you looked at cinema over 3 years ago

Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind really made me realized what kind of films I love to watch.
Mulholland Dr. only solidified that fact.

Film: Is it art or entertainment? over 3 years ago

^ Too bad it only entertains tweens.

It truly depends on the film you’re watching. I don’t go into Eraserhead and expect to be truly entertained, I know it’s a piece of art and I look at it that way. While, I can go see The Dark Knight and just expect to be entertained, I don’t expect a mind changing experience that will make the world a better place and all before it are pointless. There are the exceptions like say Vertigo which are entertaining and thought provoking.

I really love Wanted. I don’t know why, maybe because I always wanted to fly and secretly bend bullets? I also like bullets going through donuts.

Also, The Shining. I just do not see the appeal. Duvall drove me crazy, CRAZY!!!! Nicholson was good, but whatever, and Tony I just giggled like a silly school girl whenever he appeared. I’ll get lynched for this, but I just do not like this film.

Synecdoche New York over 3 years ago

I thought the burning house was GENIUS! To show someone’s fear so blatantly, but not tell the viewer “HEY, SHE’S SCARED TO DIE IN A FIRE, ADMIRE MY WIT!” makes me like it even more. There are still some things that confuse me, like, who’s Ellen? Also, take the psychiatrist, she wore shoes that were too small for her feet, because she was so self conscience about the way her feet look. Little details like that make me love this.

What strikes me the most was his use of time, Hoffman looked the same for a while, so we had no idea how much time was passing and he was still stuck in the past. He had the inability to move on. The scene in Germany (it was Germany, right?) blew my mind. I felt like breaking down and crying, but I’m a manly man, so that never happens!

I really enjoyed this film, and I see it winning best screenplay easily, directing wasn’t to die for, but that’s not what Kaufman is strong at. I just think he HAD to direct it, If I had to choose a director that could do this, I’d have to go with David Lynch, since he’s so weird.

If you caught me after I just saw it, I’d be able to go more in depth, but it’s been a while.

You did that on purpose, I’M ONTO YOU!

Another idea, there’s a way for Netflix to tell the computer “Hey, I’m doing something, so don’t turn off the monitor.” as opposed to when I’m watching something here, I have to wiggle my mouse every so often so the monitor doesn’t turn off. I don’t know how it’s done, but is that a possibility?

The Best Movie Cities over 3 years ago

It’s gotta be NYC. We have Film Forum, IFC Center, Angelika, Sunshine….I love being a New Yorker, because I never have to leave the city. Don’t forget the Tribeca Film Festival & New York Film Festival.

And during the summer, there are great free showings, like The Shining under the Brooklyn Bridge (though I don’t like the The Shining). My cousin lives in L.A. and I know, whenever I go there, I don’t have to worry either, because I can catch all the limited screenings. They have this cool thing too, where you watch a classic film in a cemetery. Not amongst the graves because that would be creepy, but it’s eerie enough just being in a cemetery. Cadavers, ugghhhh.
