This film shouldn't be hated as much as it is. Its a perfect middle-ground. A director in transition. A great film.
Why the hell are Irreversable and Funny Games "Related Films"? I'm dying to see this.
STALKER.
Beautiful, transformative cinema. The most blissfull oceans of sound-image relation ever created.
Third best movie of the year. One of the very best of the decade.
Yes. Medea. Strangely just as apocalyptic as Pasolini's Medea. And both films are very removed from the Euripedes play. I agree with Lefteris Becerra, thematic overflow between Antichrist and Medea. Although, I feel both films actually portray the power and individuality of women while the man is left weak and lost.
The Mythic Quartet is astounding. Oedipus Rex, Teorema, Porcile, Medea. Better than the Trilogy of Life?
What happened? Are people really going to let Ferrara go the way of Fuller, Peckinpah, Pasolini, Cassevetes? Are we going to let this filmmaker be seen as a force only by those few that can see it? The above directors, while marginally famous in their time, were only truly recognized after their death. Do not let this happen to Ferrara. Spread the word. His work goes beyond sleaze and vice.
