What is Kubrick's Most Under-Appreciated Film? over 3 years ago

Barry Lyndon. Maybe One of the Greatest Epics of all time. Schubert’s music and it’s mood are just great.

“Urga” was shot in Inner Mongolia with Inner Mongolian and Chinese actors. Inner Mongolian dialects are very different from the Outer Mongolian dialects. Also in Sergei Bodrov’s 2007 film “Mongol” was shot in Kazakhstan and Inner Mongolian actors were used. But the soundtrack for “Mongol” was performed by a Mongolian folk-rock band “Altan Urag”. Норжмаагийн зам (Norjmaa’s Destiny, 1938) is a good film indeed, but in my opinion these are the top 10.

The Cave of the Yellow Dog, The Story of the Weeping Camel are modern time documentaries. Mongolian classic films from the 40s, 50s and 60s are the gems from our country. But the distribution of these films is very limited in every way.

The Greatest Film of the 2000s over 2 years ago

The Best film of the 2000s? “In the mood for love”. That’s for sure, although it was made in 2000.

Great Use of Classical Music in Films over 2 years ago

Classical music is used in many many movies. What about your opinion about the classical music in films? And what film scenes are greater in sense of classical music usage? I give you some examples:

Otto e mezzo, Apocalypse Now! – Die Walküre: Ride of the Valkyries
Excalibur – Carmina Burana: O Fortuna
Raging Bull, The Godfather Part III – Cavalleria rusticana: Intermezzo
Ordinary People, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser – Canon and Gigue for Strings in D major
Brief Encounter – Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor Op.18
Venus Rising – Double Violin Concerto in A minor “L’Estro Armonico”, RV 522
Jean de Florette – La Forza del Destino: Overture
Schindler’s List – English Suite No. 2: Bourrée
The Silence of the Lambs – Goldberg Variations: 7 and Aria
Irréversible – Symphony No.7: II Allegretto

Definitely Mikhalkov’s “Urga” or “The Territory of Love”. But it was shot in Inner Mongolia. Inner Mongolian dialect is not truly Mongolian. it sounds bit more like a chinese.

karagarga 3 months ago

Hello, I’ll be very grateful if you spare a karagarka invite. I’m from Mongolia and already made a Mongolian language version of MUBI, which is artfilm.mn.

My main purpose is to enlighten Mongolian youth through art films. I also organize weekly screening of art films (I called it Dreamers’ Day) in a little gallery.

Maybe for most of you, this site will be very bizarre to look at, but I’ve been working on this site for almost a year.
