Great to see your inner street-spirited self coming out! I do agree with some of your criticisms on White Dog, but, come on — the street sweeper attack scene is phenomenal. It’s an absurd film and that’s why I like it.
The slow motion sequences of the white dog running toward the camera are fantastic.
I’ll admit the white dog certainly out-acted Kristy.
Film can be anything. I loved Mister Lonely. The critics didn’t, but their mind is trained to critically assess film based on traditional narrative structure, dramatic arcs, etc.
I’ll admit that Mister Lonely is not flawless.
But let’s consider this: Nuns sky-dive, with BMX bikes, from a plane that Herzog is piloting.
Owning them all takes the fun out of owning criterion dvds. Even if I was rich, I would opt not to own them all. Love the title of this thread, though.
Deborah directed the experimental documentary O’er the Land (Sundance/Rotterdam selectee).
I’d love to hear your feedback on the interview.
Any D. Stratman/O’er the Land fans out there?
@Mike Spence || I’ve seen a number of her films – O’er the Land, In Order Not to Be Here, From Hetty to Nancy, Kings of the Sky, It Will Die Out in the Mind, How Among the Frozen Words – a 16mm of print of O’er the Land is still touring the country. It recently played at the Downtown LA Film Festival. Eventually O’er the Land will be available on DVD. You can rent her films through the Video Data Bank. I wrote a review on In Order Not to Be Here:
@KJ || If you have Netflix or Facets, a good place to start is Something Like Flying: The Experimental Films of Debra Stratman. That disc contains three of her films, including In Order Not to Be Here.

Q: Most Experimental Film?
I’d have to say “Crank,” due to its use of heavy filters! Critically lauded and internationally renowned.
BTW: I love the scene where he has to do the girl on the street. Very surreal, with all those Japanese pedestrians taking photos!
