Disturbing Movies that You Love... over 4 years ago

I saw Tenebrae in a special double bill screening in my hometown of Glasgow when I was 18 and it’s been one of my favorite films ever since. Don’t know about disturbing but over the top, graphic and nonsensical it certainly is! It’s the one film I’m always pressing on people and it’s a real divider, strong reactions all round. How about an Argento Eclipse pacakge, Criterion?

Peckinpah for me too, but (poss out of leftfield) what about the great Vincent Gallo?

I may get some flak for this – but debate is good, no? To me, Antonioni is the most overrated director in the history of cinema. Godard leaves me cold as well but Antonioni’s stuff actually offends me. What about y’all, who is in need of a peg-taking-down-or-two? (conceivably this could run and run, with everyone but Uwe Boll getting a mention)

Hate to be a hater, so I want to balance out my Overrated thread with this: Which directors do you think should be household names (as opposed to required viewing on Film Stuides courses) along the order of Scorsese and Hitchcock? Who is your ‘X’ in the following sentence: ‘You havent heard of X?? You gotta check out Y…’
For me it would be Sam Fuller, Mario Bava, and Vincent Gallo. Sam because his work is hardass as hell and throuroughly entertaining, Mario cos I think his films are barmy and beautiful, and Vincent, not that he’s in my top ten of all-time greats, just someone who has taken a lot of knocks and I feel he’s a valuable filmmaker who deserves respect.

Over to y’all
