Se7en was far ahead of its time, and besides being a highly elevated, thoughtful genre piece with an ending that does tear one apart, especially since the victim appears for minutes in the film (Paltrow gave an indelible small performance as a truly devoted wife, and has done nothing comparable since) the film also was the impetus for the millions of film and tv crime dramas since shot in dark, saturated color, green or sepia-tones. It literally created the cliche. As for those who found the twists and crimes predictable, do us all a favor and log off of here and finish your screenplays.
I agree with Ben. Also if you really felt like you saw all of it coming, you perhaps have become far too cynical to watch anything other than Lynch films. sorry bout the spoilers.
Has anyone seen this film?

Seems to be a Spanish take on a Giallo, specifically Argento-esque, whom I love. Want to know though if its a waste of rental. Its credited to Juan Antonio Bardem, but the actual director died falling from the bell tower of the title days before shooting ended, which adds intrigue.
I found the “Girl” films to be so loose and boring in so many sections. The first one was great, but mainly due to Noomi Rapace. Amazing performance and just stunning presence. The less active she came to be in each film film the worse they got. The plots could be so tv mystery and deceptively convoluted in their simplicity. I REALLY hope fincher has chosen well with Rooney Mara and can really hone this into a tight, meaningful, and powerful film. Will it be a compressed one-off? I hope so.
Berjuan,
Zodiac is so much more than a procedural. If you dont see that the film is solely about the destructive force of obsession, and what it does to ones life, I think you need to rewatch. The reason Fincher is so successful, and quite often beloved, is because of the fact that he takes formulaic genres and upends them to bring them new depth.
