I enjoy long walks on the beach at sunset, the feeling in the air before a summer storm, and poking dead things with a long sharp stick; aside from that… I joined ‘the auteurs’ because I relish being introduced to movies I’ve never heard of (let alone seen) on an international level and, I thoroughly enjoy sharing (listing) the titles of films I’ve appreciated throughout my lifetime… I collect movie memorabilia, books, promotional items and props… My film library is composed of over 2,000 titles in both laserdisc and dvd format… There really isn’t any genre that I wouldn’t watch, but I do float through phases from time to time… From Philadelphia, PA, US of A, I’m a married man (to a woman; I’m old fashioned that way), three kids; none of them human… Interests outside of film include reading, unique collectibles (such as: vintage Jazz Age bar & restaurant menus, vampire folk art), car culture, lowbrow art, tattoos, music, Atomic era kitsch, scale model cars, baseball and Formula One racing… Thanks for the visit!
“FYC”: The phrase “FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION” prefaces film titles when they’re forwarded to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for recognition of merit, and I thought it was very appropriate to head my lists… I really started these filmographies for myself… It’s kind of a tribute to all those meaningful hours spent in the dark, with all my attention focused on the art of storytelling through the talented visions of others… These are far from all the films I’ve witnessed, just those that have stirred something in me… I’d say see them all, but who am I to tell you what to like… They’re my favorites for all sorts of reasons; astonishing performances, witty dialog, breath taking visuals, mesmerizing story lines, etc.; the same credentials an academy would use, except when I vote, I have no political agenda to promote… So don’t be offended if your favorite isn’t here; these are my lists… I encourage and welcome what you consider worthwhile… Remember: there’s never any accounting for taste!
RATINGS?.. I don’t take them seriously… 5 stars is about as reliable a system as ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ is; too black & white for a commentary that deserves a considerably more detailed account of where one stands… I judge on how the film makes me ‘think and feel overall’… A 5 to me doesn’t mean it was a perfectly made film, it means i enjoyed it alot, for whatever reasons… You won’t find 1 or 2 stars, because i don’t ‘list’ or ‘fan’ any film that i wouldn’t recommend, and i woundn’t recommend seeing a 1 or 2 star rated film… If you’d like to discuss viewpoints in a civilized manner, just ask… I’m not a professional in the industry and I haven’t taken any classes regarding film studies; I just love watching movies!
