About Me

A blink of an eye, a flash of a heel, a teaspoon placed in a saucer, a lighted cigarette… I’m a cinephile and talk is cheap

Russian Ark

A truly astonishing piece of Cinerama that can only ever be described in over-enthusiastic superlatives and even then I would fear of doing it a disservice. It's (literal) sweeping majesty and glorious conceit makes me weep sweet tears of cinephiliac joy

you are now most assuredly my favorite reviewer on mubi! Thanks for getting me to watch "Sabotage" (I kept skipping it). Just finished it and LOVED it! Glad to see some "The Mist" love too. Tip: The movie is even better in black and white. seriously, turn off the color in your telly and watch it again, the effects look better and the composition and lighting of all the shots is stronger.

Very enjoyable review of There Will Be Blood - you certainly did untangle the mysterious greatness of the film for me. Please keep up the good work.

The Crazies

The Crazies

Not the most original of horrors – shockingly derivative right down to it’s big groan filled final moments. Plus it’s episodic and repetitive plot (get to this barn, think they’re safe, audience see…  read review

49th Parallel

49th Parallel

I have a real soft spot for The 49th Parallel. It’s certainly not held up by many as the best of Powell and Pressburger but it’s one of those films I find myself drawn to again and again – P&P’s…  read review

I did so want to like this – the tantalising premise intrigued me at the very least. But, as hard as I tried, I couldn’t engage with the characters who ranged from stiff and aloof to petulant and annoying…  read review
