"An amazingly affectionate critique of the madness that is Christian belief." I believe Bunuel was satirizing the Catholic church as he was brought up Jesuit. As a Christian, I have never once thought he was criticizing the actual belief system of a Christian. I think he pokes fun at some of the traditions of the Catholic church as well as some absurdities that humans have made up themselves when it pertains to "religion." What's funny is, even though I'm a Christian, I think he's dead on in a lot of what he says because as people we are fallen and make mistakes. And I also have big issues with the Catholic church specifically which I think, again, he hits dead on. Sorry, I am defensive when someone throws the word "Christian" out there. It happens way too much in Hollywood and movies already without critics throwing it around.
