I can't agree more.
Does anyone have a link to where you can stream it with the correct frame rate?
Oh my God the universe is MADE OUT OF NUMBERS!!! D:
I was kind of shocked by how riveted I was by this film! I never thought a lemon could be so monolithic and mysterious.
DO NOT READ ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE BEFORE SEEING IT!! SPOILERS ABOUND EVERYWHERE!!! YOU WILL THANK ME!
The moral of the story: Prison is pretty fun and carefree until you start trying to escape from it!
But playing poker, having egg-eating contests, and watching ridiculous women wash cars is!
Ugh. So full of cheese. Yes, war is bad, this movie is just a long series of sanctimonious speeches to that effect. Great job!
Here are some really interesting essays on the film (plus an animated gif!!): http://hollisframpton.org.uk/zornslemma.htm
I didn't ever realize how great the Artemyev score was until last night when I watched the uncompressed blu ray on some new speakers! It was really incredible!
Such a great movie! I was really blown away!
Too many Tchaikovsky quotations!!
Evelyn Brent is amazing! I love her!! This film has the greatest treatment of the Russian Revolution I've seen on film - it sympathizes with and demonizes both sides. And then the last shot was incredible, and hugely ahead of its time. Really great film!!
Great cinematography and editing, but the content wasn't that great. Yeah, consumerist society is mundane and alienating... great job pointing that out, Mr. Haneke!
Screw the government!
Good story, but it should have fleshed out the theme that everyone is living a double life, instead of just vaguely touching on it. Also, the irony at the end was really forced and overwrought.
TERRIFYING!
My first encounter with Fulci, and it is SO FREAKING GREAT!! I can't wait to see more of his movies! Also, it looks like it was filmed in Georgia! Isn't that great?
Who decided to add this and Felidae to the "related films" section of EVERY horror movie on Mubi?
What a pleasant surprise!! I rented it cause I felt like laughing at a bad movie and watch attractive leads die, but it turned out to be really effectively gruesome! And there were several surprising plot twists!
:/ Some of the most boring cinematography I've ever seen!
I enjoyed this movie SO MUCH! What a pleasant surprise - don't listen to anybody who says anything bad about it!
"Last night I watched myself sleep... and then I flew away" HILARIOUS!!
"a devil-possessed nunnery, the mother superior of which is sexually obsessed by him." Ok I need to see this now! Why, oh why do you not have this, Netflix??
For some reason, I can't disassociate this film from an unrelated nightmare I had months after seeing it where I had a terrible death/vomit/rotten tuna-fish taste in my mouth... I can't even look at screenshots without imagining the taste! What the heck?
This was my first Oshima film, and prompted me to watch nothing but Oshima for over a month, but I was always disappointed. Still, the eclipse set is worth it just for this movie! A perfect blend of surrealism, philosophy, rebellion, and Japanese history!
Yep! This is how men and women all are!
Where the heck did Matt Damon get all the prom decorations when there were riots happening everywhere?
Boring for 90 minutes and then underwhelming for 30.
I remember watching this as a kid and being pretty tripped out by the elevator interview!
I enjoy Guy Maddin's style, but this film seemed just too personal for me... it was hard to really get anything out of it.
