Federico Fellini

Yes, he is among the two or three best directors in Cinema history. His magical brand of cinema will be with me til the day I die. What gifts he gave us! His work with Giulietta Masina, the greatest actress ever ~and Fellini's wife~ is especially endearing. Thank you Federico, for everything you gave us. And Thank You Criterion Collection for giving us his most beautiful films in absolutely wonderful editions, esp. 8 1/2, Juliet of the Spirits, I Vitelloni and Amarcord. The artwork is gorgeous! Anyone who doesn't have these...buy them immediately.

I know you wrote the review 3 years ago, and you may not even read this message, but reading your review of "Sweet and Lowdown" I noticed something that is factually incorrect. You pointed out that Samantha Morton was the first actor to be nominated for a non-speaking role. This is not true. Patty Duke in "The Miracle Worker" (won), John Mills in "Ryan's Daughter" (won), Marlee Matlin in "Children of a Lesser God" (won), and Holly Hunter in "The Piano" (won) all came before Morton.

Thanks, I'll definitely take your advice when I watch it. Whenever that may be. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Yes! I totally agree with you! I think watching films has taught me so much more about life than life itself ever will. I want to see Eyes Wide Shut not because it has promiscuous elements, but because it is progressive and intellectual. Films shape everything for me. They teach me about the person I want to be, but more importantly, they teach me about the person I don't want to be. That's I don't see my age as an issue. Regardless of whether or not I like a particular film, I am always going to be able to draw something from it as long as it is a respected piece of work.

I sat stunned when I finally completed Fanny & Alexander. It is so rare that a film can give such an emotional/nostalgiac/comforting high and also bring you down into the cruelest most terrifying…  read review

A wonderful film that proves Woody still has it in him. Very nice period recreation. One of Allen’s best scripts. One of my favorite performances of Sean Penn’s. This introduced Samantha Morton to…  read review

I’ll never forget seeing this film for the first time. Tom Waits is my one “desert island” musician/songwriter and he’s wonderful as Zach, a DJ down on his luck. As I was mentioning to someone the…  read review
