"A Serious Man" of the 90s. But weirder.
I understand the criticism on Broken Embraces, but I just can't see this film and dislike it. There are many precious scenes all over it. Mellow? Yes. The tendency to solve everything in the last minutes? Yes. Auto-referente? Cliché? Yes, yes, sure. But, still, this is a veiculo for a director to photograph his muse in all of her melodramatic and gorgeous existance. Its a love letter.
Never mind your dislike for Cameron's tendency for cheesy romance and sentimental battle scenes, Avatar is a major visual achievement. The world created by the Avatar crew is so involving that I came to the theater ready to hate it (I'm not a blockbuster type) and found myself moved with the story and it's characters. It's beautiful and, quoting Noah, a must see in IMAX 3D. Open your mind and go for it.
Charming, smart and fun, it perfectly translates Anderson's aesthetics and themes to animation. I know this is not Avatar, but try to see it in a big screen, as the dolls and scenario are full of vivid detail.
It would be much better if it was shorter (2)
Gorgeous film, and a sad, sad love story.
cold and pretentious. I was very excited to see Kaufman's first work as a director, but after one hour and a half I just wanted it to end as soon as possible. maybe it needs a new chance?
Watched this movie for the first time with my mother when I was 5 or 6 years old. Laughed my heart out. Saw it again last week and it didn't looked so funny anymore, but still enchanting.
of all directors, it was Truffaut who I would have loved to share a bottle of wine.
when man were man.
Selznick was a douchebag, all right. But I still love this movie.
