Nice elitism.
Felt so honest and real. Independent filmmaking at its finest. The performances were also stellar. The theme it covers is more important than ever and it handles it so delicately. Also beautifully shot. Such an impressive debut!
Powerful, gripping and tense. Excellent movie with a truly outstanding Krystyna Janda! Along with Kieslowski's best work one of the defining moments of Polish cinema.
What a right wing piece of shit this was, seriously. Glorifying police brutality, racism, bigotry, homophobia and a black white world (police = all good, poor people = all drug dealers and scum) Cinema fascism at its worst. Shame on you Mr. Padilha...
Wow, just wow! This was so disturbing, so bleak and so damn realistic it was hard to stomach at times. Excellent movie and some truly outstanding acting. The realism of the movie is amazing. And considering its based on a true story only made it that much more terrifying. An absolute must see for anyone seriously into cinema, it might be hard to recommend it to more sensitive people, for all the rest, go see it! :)
Did not find this "tedious, trite, boring or shit" at all. I found it riveting, engaging, complex and excellent. You simply need to be patient and smart enough to go through it. Better than 90% of Oscar awarded films in the last 20 years. Acting was impeccable. While it was shot wonderfully, this was all about substance, the stuff that so much lacks in many other similar movies which tend to be driven by style...
I absolutely loved this, the whole tone of the movie is just perfect!
I guess i was the only one that loved this. As anything by Brisseau i have seen as well. So much more to my taste than most things made across the Atlantic ;)
Such a great movie! Suleiman is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary filmmakers...
Fascinating movie. Not the usual Swedish cast you expect from Ingmar, but even the German cast really delivers, excellent acting from first to last, and really delves deep into human emotions, love, hatred, desire, sexual preference etc. I was even surprised how frankly open the sexuality was portrayed and some of the explicit scenes, you dont see this in 80's America :)
This was even better than the trailer suggested, really astonishing from a visual and sound perspective (worth seeing in high definition quality for those two reasons alone) and those changes of colours (filters) were really something special. A gorgeous modern take on giallo with a sightly experimental touch, well worth checking out if you're even remotely into such kind of movies ;)
Such a great and sexy movie! Only the French know how to do such ;)
Beatrice Dalle and the wonderful Hafsia Herzi from Secret of the grain, this i must see! :)
Finally a new Hollywood movie that i actually loved. Wonderfully shot, meticulous about the subject, wonderful acting by Portman and a beautiful score (C. Mansell). A bit overthetop in some parts, a bit cheesy in some others, but even with all it's imperfections it still was a tour de force of film-making and the lead acting. The closest it comes to an art film from within Hollywood boundaries. And that says a lot!
I so badly want to see this. My most anticipated movie of the last few years :D
Superb movie. Hal Hartley is one of the most neglected american filmmakers, yet is so many times so much better and more interesting than the media darlings. Probably my favorite american director.
"Michael Moore Hates America" is bad filmmaking, not this. EOS
Very much agreed with Peter and Shadows and SIlence, this was excellent and thought provoking stuff. Dont understand the haters at all. They sound too much as the right wing "critics" too many times and that's scary. Michael knows what he talks about and he presents it in a good way that even a wider audience can understand...
What a truly great and haunting movie this is. And the soundtrack is just wonderful.
Beautiful and brilliant movie. Gladly disagree with almost everyone below me...
Can't wait to see this myself, viva socialisme!
Brilliant film making. Genius...
Beautiful, moving, inspirational, sad and personal. A human story, an environment story, an endurance voyage, it wonderfully captures several elements and levels into one story of a man and his mission (to swim the whole of the Amazon) Deserves to be seen on a global scale and gets the recognition it deserves. Wooow...
This was great. And the prologue was fantastic and utterly beautiful. Don't understand all the hatred at all. After seeing all the hatred and finally watching it, it only made me like it even more. Far more interesting than 90% of the crap that comes out of Hollywood nowadays. Trier just keeps on surprising me each time, in a good way...
