Part Two: Halfway through the movie, it felt terribly rushed. Also, the ending itself was absolutely ridiculous. Overall, it was like watching a train-wreck occur.
For me, Black Swan was one of the biggest cinematic disappoint in years. I've never been a fan of Aronofsky, but I had high expectations for the film, because many of my cinephile friends were ranting and raving about it. At first, I loved the way it was shot and the Polanski-esque atmosphere (in fact, at that point, it reminded me of Polanski's The Tenant ). (continued)
I would love to see more of Makavejev's work! Sweet Movie is the only film I have seen by him. I've heard great things about Mysteries of the Organism... do you think that's a good choice as a follow up from Sweet Movie?
The Tenant is and incredible study of paranoia and madness. This wonderful adaptation of Topor's novel struck me on a level unlike any other films I've seen. Polanski is fantastic as Trelkovsky, which is no surprise. Trelkovsky and Polanski have a lot in common. In the film, Trelkovsky is the outsider, and Polanski will ALWAYS been considered an outsider in our society, which is truly unfortunate. This is one of Polanski's darkest films, and I HIGHLY recommend it.
I think I dated Max's twin. After we broke it off, he started dating an 18 year old girl. If this film hadn't been made in 1995, I would swear Max's character was based on my ex. That was a stupid antidote. Apologies. Also, COOKIE MAN: PRO-LIFE?
