Really good performance from Michelle Pfeiffer!
Charlie Day made me smile from time to time, as did Jason Bateman. Enjoyed some of the pop culture references, like the mention of Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train and then the mention of Throw Mama from the Train.
I love Depp and Bonham Carter in just about everything. Really though Michelle Pfeiffer did a terrific job as well. In short, most of the cast worked, but I'm not sure the story really translated well...I found it somewhat tedious and boring in parts. Didn't completely flow. With that said, I did laugh out loud a few times. The soundtrack is pretty decent--T. Rex, Bowie, Donovan, etc.
David Bowie and his area.
I enjoyed Kevin Kline's dance moves, found John C. Reilly's Mickey Mouse/MJ voice to be quite surprising and am not sure it's all that memorable. Paul Dano is excellent (as usual).
Was a little slow, but worth viewing at least once. Interesting story. Unlike some other viewers on here, I didn't mind the lead actor that much--his friends on the other hand got on my nerves (However, one could argue it was their loosely developed characters and not really the actors).
I don't remember this Elvis picture well, but it was a favorite as a kid. The racing element probably reminded me of Grease or something.
I love Simon Pegg, Gillian Anderson, Jeff Bridges, Thandie Newton and Chris O'Dowd....this just really didn't work that well. Some okay moments.
I wish I could get those 104 minutes of my life back. So terrible. Worthy of 1/2 star (or less).
Watched this mostly for Gary Oldman and some of the sweeping shots used in the trailer to lure people in...it was such a mess...from the dialogue, acting and the editing. The star is mostly for Gary Oldman and the use of Fever Ray.
It needed more Merritt Wever!
Anne Bancroft is its savior.
The Soloist was a great book with an interesting story. Unfortunately that story did not translate well in the adaptation. In part, perhaps, due to the casting. While I tend to like Wright's films, I think this is the worst so far.
My first Criterion film! A childhood favorite.
I agree! The colors and contrasts in the film are quite beautiful.
