Def. second this I was suckered in and teary eyed walking out man I love Eric Roth.
We all [asshole-ic filmmakers] can learn from its sense of play and freedom.
I understand criticisms of this movie, but you cannot lump this in with Swanberg and all the other lifeless, numb, passionless crap that is sometimes called mumblecore. If you hated this movie, it is likely you would not like the individual who made the movie. By that I mean to say this is a true personal voice. And I have news for you -- that spells a huge success in my book. That is rare these days.
A very special film to me. Very close to my heart. Yes, the film is engaging because Bill is engaging. In essence, the film could've been poor and I would have still loved it because of its subject, but lets not diminish the filmmaker's work. They were in the right places at the right times and they put it all together masterfully. Bravo.
could've went further, but Interesting approach, yet it feels like not everyone was on-board.
There must be something 'off' with me. I actually really liked this movie. I thought it was very good commercial filmmaking. (and this director seems like such a douchebag, so it pains me to say that). Hans and Bullock were totally mis-cast and almost ruin the entire film. When storytelling in film 'works' for me, it has to be masterful and brave, and that's what this was. but was there a bunch to forgive? sure.

I have a large radar attached to me. A pretension radar. It goes off within a large radius of the stuff. It broke when i saw "You and...we know". It didn't let out a peep when I saw this movie. This is the best American movie to come along in years. It is bold, unique, well executed and deeply personal, not to mention tremendously artistic in the finest sense of the word. Haters need to hate on something needing it.
An incredible work of craftsmanship, visual storytelling and performance...and yet somehow tremendously boring. I still have the utmost respect and appreciation for the film and all involved, however. A brave work, indeed.
Another absolute masterpiece from this insanely consistent filmmaker. So happy this man is making movies.
Supreme masterpiece.
A really special film. Some choices were puzzling, but I still felt I was in the hands of a new master. And Fassbinder might just be the best actor in the world right now.
Unlike other films that have an illusion of depth, Malick's particularly skilled at creating this illusion. And although it all seemed, to me, slap-dash and thin, covered heavily with non-stop music, i appreciate the effort. The polarity this film creates echoes the faith vs. rational worldview. For me it is not that simple. I believe in God, just not Malick's. The great spiritual film of our times is yet to come.
Comedy done right. Impressive, pitch perfect and ahead of it's time, humor-wise.

Exquisite, beguiling, mysterious and masterful.
Astounding.
Not sure why more people aren't excited about this film. As a film lover, this baffles me. As a filmmaker, this makes me mad.
Saw this at MoMA today. Another great Sternberg film. So insane yet so focused and raw. And another great ending! He knows how to end pictures!
One of the greatest short films i have ever seen. An absolute masterpiece.
another astonishing film from a master, with an unforgettable performance.
A difficult experience that won't leave me for some time.
Just saw this on the big screen today. What an experience. A true master.
This film is, in my humble opinion, the single most successful motion picture I have ever seen. I see it every time it comes to town and it is like visiting an old friend again and again. I first saw it in 1995, days before shooting my thesis film, and you can see its influences on me even then. To me, this is perfection in filmmaking. It is everything I need in a film. And it makes me happy just knowing it exists.
The few things that require forgiveness in this film are out-weighed by incredible honesty in the performances (especially Welsh) and a wonderfully subtle, thoughtful and authentic sense of time and place. Quinn, with a delicate hand (and, apparently, practically single-handed), has made a small, seemingly loose but deceptively focused film about family, divorce and tradition. A true inspiration to me as a filmmaker.
One of my favorite Christmas movies.
Totally and completely agree with you, Mr. Richards.
brave, unique, weird and wonderful
Moore is an exceptional film essayist and should be viewed and critiqued as such, not a documentarian.
Just saw this at MoMA. What a great time. Pretty good print too.
Another exceptionally interesting and entertaining documentary from Ondi Timoner. Although, once again, she seems to chew up another genius and spit him out in whatever way serves the narrative. this time being slightly more favorable toward her subject in the end.
