That's right ^^
I understand he was killed in Libya today. A damn shame.
Is there a more perfect way to spend a wet, chilly Sunday afternoon with a bag of cheddar Sun Chips and the Killer Shrews? The magic memories of Saturday matinees long past.
Completely underrated!
For a brief time Gods walked among us.
Beyond atrocious, saw this as a kid on a double bill matinee with an Elvis Presley film, how apropos.
Schizophrenic.
My favorite Scorsese film.
This plays more like an Italian Western than a political drama, still another great score by Morricone with an assist from Joan Baez.
Under-rated and almost forgotten.
Originally to be directed by Peter Bogdanovich with Sergio Leone producing. However when production was set to begin both Rod Steiger and James Coburn refused to begin work because they had signed on to be in a film by Sergio Leone. Peter was fired and Sergio took over the directing chores for a film he really had little interest in. Memorable for the last line in the film spoken by Steigers character Juan, "What about me?"
While Bela Lugosi owned the role of Dracula, this version is superior both technically and artistically.
I really like that quote.
From the moment Gillian Anderson appears on screen as Lily it is evident why Davies selected her for this role. Her performance is both understated and unsentimental, and yet so moving. (She repeated this with the PBS presentation of Bleak House a few years ago) Davies skips the superficial details of the period and concentrates his efforts on detailing the wealthy social rituals of the time and the suffering it causes on the class's below their stature. An excellent film film by Davies and a terrific cast.
Why isn't The HouseKeeper listed on here?
Big surprise, this one fascinates me.
The miscasting in this film continually pulls you out of the story. An absurd mess that borders on the unwatchable.
A too often forgotten giant, a outspoken advocate for free speech, and a vastly under rated composer.
Her first appearance with the two dogs in the ruins of a castle is a wonder to behold. Bava had a great eye for setting up some of the most atmospheric shots and this is one of best.
It is extremely difficult to get most people to recognize that this film had some serious points to make about the use of nuclear weapons and their lasting effects. A well made film on a tight budget and tighter shooting schedule. Bay, McG and others should wish their films would have such an impact or spawn such a series of films.(Granted most are pretty terrible but some bring back some fond memories)
The film that really began my journey.......
Thought her performance in Celestial Clockwork was just terrific.
she can deliver a wider range of emotions in a few moments of silence then some "actors and actress's" have delivered in their entire careers.
Written and directed by Jane Campion with some terrific cinematography and a stunning soundscape design but none of this over-shadows two excellent lead performances. Enthralling.
For me, this film in its subtle layers reads more like a book, revealing a little more each time I watch it. The story is simple yet wonderfully rich in its detail. A vastly rewarding experience, and quite likely one of my new favorites.
Woo's love of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films shows through on the action set pieces in this film. The finale in the church has got to be seen to be believed. An amazing thrill ride that has never been equaled. Violence as poetic art.
A celebration of youth and its frustrations, adventures, the promise of romance and beckoning adulthood and its burdening responsibilities. Thoroughly enjoyable film from the "Czech New Wave" before it was crushed under the weight of soviet tanks.
A charming film that pulls you in with engaging performances by the entire cast. Terrific cinematography with a great use of color. How could you not be pulled in by Audrey Tautou.....
This is my "go to" film when the world is banging to loudly on my door. Well written dialogue delivered by a first class cast, and just a little social commentary to satisfy my conscience.
this is cinema!!!
