About Me

Absolutely rabid, insatiable film buff, ever since the age of five when I wondered how the TV worked by switching from a picture of a room to a picture of a person inside that room (only years later I figured out that was a “cut”).

Have also worked in film my whole life, though on the business side (exhibition and distribution). Am currently Director of Theatrical Distribution at Mongrel Media, a film distribution company based in Canada (recent releases include Let The Right One In, Rachel Getting Married, Heaven On Earth, The Edge of Heaven, etc.)

The only thing I love more than cinema is my beautiful four-year-old daughter Maggie.

A Clockwork Orange

Having recently watched this (for the first time since I was a teenager), I was surprised by how uneven it is. To me, it somehow achieved this mythic status that made it no longer a movie but some sort of timeless work in a category all on it's own - which it kind of is. But it is unforgettable and distinctly it's own, almost devoid of any filmic context or prior influence.

Well, folks, it's T- 4 days to TIFF. We have sixteen (could end up being seventeen) films at the festival this year. So I'm going to try to give a day-by-day account of it on here (as if anyone gives a shit, but whatever). This weekend has been fantastic, hanging out with Paige, eating great food, drinking great booze (like Botanist Islay Gin martinis!) and tomorrow (Labour Day) I'll be hanging out with Maggie. There is still a lot to do between now and Thursday - lots of missing travel information, getting some tickets out, ironing out some details. But as always, it will all get done - stressing about it is both futile and unavoidable. Our first guest arrives tomorrow - Wim Wenders, an eloquent and gentle soul who I had the pleasure to meet a few months ago. I am very excited to see how his film Pina is received here in Toronto. Our first 3D release!
