Hey thanks for fanning the Brenez list! Very envious you are in Paris DC ain't that much of a movie city ...
Ah, I'm actually back in New York--should update that info. But yes, Paris is cinephile heaven.
Thanks for the follow! THE WHOLE SHOOTIN' MATCH is OOP, probably best to torrent it off KG. As a lifelong Texan, I can tell you it's the most accurate and best film ever made about our culture.
That's high praise indeed! I've seen and loved most every other movie in your top ten, so I'll take your word for it. My personal favorite movie about Texas is The Last Picture Show.
Looks like you're having a great 2012 of viewing! I'm jealous of those Aldo Tambinelli and all the shorts on 16mm at the Pompidou. What was that program all about? Could you perhaps send me a link if one exists? Glad someone else is paying attention to the formats they're viewing on. :) And surprised Turin Horse even distributes in DCP with how much of a celluloid fetishist Tarr is! Definitely saw that on 35mm at NYFF (with Tarr in person!).
Hi there! The Tambellini program was part of a weekend retrospective of his work at the Centre Pompidou, and he was there to present it. The other 16mm program was made up of films that he apparently showed in a theater he ran on the Lower East Side of New York in the late '60s. Here's the whole weekend (in French): http://www.centrepompidou.fr/Pompidou/Manifs.nsf/AllCycle/Aldo%20Tambellini?OpenDocument Re: DCP, that's how it is for new films in Paris, since the arthouses and multiplexes stand together, for better or worse. There are always a few theaters showing 35mm prints of new films (and plenty for old ones), but it's not always easy to know in advance. Great movie nevertheless. Tarr was here for his own retrospective back in December, which was a treat. Happy new year of viewing!
