In my opinion, Tikimentary doesn't deserve the harsh reviews below. It's not perfect and yes it perhaps struggles with focus placement on an extensive subject. But it's 25 minutes well worth watching if you want a brief - and personal - glimpse into this subculture. I certainly feel enlightened and ready for more tiki.
Intriguing display of women's conditions in Iran. No doubt an important film in terms of subject matter. Strong performances. Handheld camera staying close to the action supports the feel of women on the run from lurking danger. At times I was somewhat thrown off by the lingering narrative though, but still a very watchworthy feature. First I've seen from Panahi, but will definitely be on the lookout for more.
An auteur film for everyone - and that's quite a feat. It's heartfelt and straightforward enough that I could show it to my mom. And at the same time it triggers contemplations on the construction of memory and the nature of film.
