A soft-hearted, sincere "Up in the Air."
Important, truly. But mawkish in form, and naive in proposition.
Anyone here ever read "Riverworld?"
Kali ma shakti de!
I felt like Homer Simpson yelling at his TV: "BE MORE FUNNY!" Interesting ideas on consumerism and work life. Awfully droll and hipster-centric execution.
It was just, really bad. And not like in the aggressively stupid, and guiltily enjoyable way of a Bay movie. This was just big, loud and dumb.
Question: Would anyone (preferably U.S.) know where I could get her short film, "The Set-Up?" Her student film about two guys beating the shit outta each other while two profs narrate?
Did anyone else notice that Jack Cardiff died this last year? Drag.
Who lets this shit escape Lifetime?
The Dude imbibes. Cliched, but cool about it.
NAZI! (Pronounced like yatzee).
Was it just me, or was this a film, for film-snobs? Like, a contained Tarantino?
Anyone want to start a grassroots awards campaign for Catalina Saavedra?
I beg of the Auteurs: Please, at the very least, put "The Black Stallion" up here. It's work of a patient painter. A lyrical color epic.
This is the most fun I had at a movie in '09. The breakdancing soul was perhaps the most entertaining moment this year in movies. A great, gonzo performance about institutional failure.
Isn't it so cool and unique, that "Picnic at Hanging Rock" scares the bejeesus outta you, without rivers of blood and disfigured knife-wielders?
At least put "Master and Commander" on here? It is a masterpiece of unironic, literature sea adventure.
"Captain Blood!!!" Please.
This movie's much fun/funnier once you look into Oedipus.
What ... is that photo from? Where's Mr. Fonda and/or Mr. Lemmon?
My Blue Velvet review (Now in 5 Words!) David. Lynch. Can. Suck. It. But seriously, this is among Lynch's many false prophecies. It's mere shock-jock material dolled up to look artful and intriguing. We get it. There's crazy shit happening beneath the veneer of suburbia. Holy shit. An ear.
Where the hell is Johnn Stecchino!?!? Funniest banana gag, uhm, ever!
Not merely a great film, but I would argue, that this is the best first 10 minutes of any film I've seen. Out of the cosmos, comes a scared David Niven, going down and falling in love. All of it handsomely, perfectly captured. An oddly optimistic story.
I hate to admit it, but I'd love to see "Tommy" up in here. If drug-addled imagery and tasteless theatricality enables one to be an auteur, then why not get this guy some more attention? Wouldn't mind "Savage Messiah" or "Music Lovers" either. Oh, and yeah, "The Devils" too. Yeah.
I watched "New York, New York" today. Now I know that's there's such a thing as a bad Scorsese film. But, that in no way shape or form tarnishes just about every film above this wall. Scorsese's an O.G. Plain and simple. Dense and complex.
I'm with Halim down low. The first hour is sweet and sincere and sensationally romantic. An added bonus is the secondary feeling given to the age barrier. Besides, that's what I feel was most noted in U.S. advertising. But, it was far more complicated and thoughtful than that. Even if the final act is by the book.
Not the best movie of all time — certainly not. But, it's my absolute favorite film. I'm sure I'm not alone on this one?
Saw it at the CIFF. Colin Firth was acting like the fifth nominee (that's a good thing), and Tom Ford shows a tremendous amount of potential. Think "Mad Men's" affectation, met with surprising affability.
Arguably the funniest shit of 2009. "You diabolical, dick-shrinking motherfuckers!"
