It's hilarious
I'm shocked this film is on MUBI! HA!
Stanley should have made sure EVERY copy was destroyed. He really should have. I'm sad I watched this now as it brought down the rating of him on my top directors list....
Close your eyes kids
I'll go ahead and say this is now my favorite Christmas movie.
"'Okay Marlowe,' I said to myself. 'You're a tough guy. You've been sapped twice, choked, beaten silly with a gun, shot in the arm until you're crazy as a couple of waltzing mice. Now let's see you do something really tough - like putting your pants on.'"
This still looks like Jonas's mother is actually a mirror of what he will look like in 30 years.
Roberto in Down By Law said it best - "It's a sad and beautiful world." I feel so privileged to have seen this on film on the big screen at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
Put down Meek as the newest edition to my list of favorite characters.
I don't tend to give star ratings to shorts but let me just add to the seniment that this one should be seen.
"Me, I've decided to go to the movies every day and so spend most of my life in a coma."
"Oh Senior Pastrami, what is the first number?" "Number One!"
Hahaha, everyone here hated this based on their ratings! Well it's been along time since I saw it, but I didn't remember it being that bad.
I can't believe it. She's terrible.
My favorite scenes are any with electronic music and dancing.
The fifteenth full length film from The Coen Brothers, and the first one I haven't rated five out of five stars. Kind of a bummer.
Blue, I was thinking of every single one of those names while I watched this film!!!
Man I love Bruce. His own segment was the one that made me the most happy. Good to see him get married. But then he shows up again as a friend in Neil's segment! That made me even happier. He's the most caring and accepting guy.
This is just as good if not better than the original BBC miniseries. Both screenplays were written by Potter. The film is obviously more compact, but works perfectly for it's length. Gambon is an amazing actor (the best live theatre performance I ever saw was him in Harold Pinter's The Caretaker), but this is my favorite Robert Downy Jr. role. If you are American, you may relate more to the film version.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you for adding this film for me!!! Highly underrated!
Drinking in Wisconsin
I disagree with some of the wall posts below stating that the filmmaker "doesn't seem to know the right questions" or that it's a shame he "doesn't quite know what he's making a documentary of". He handles the journey deftly and takes what could be a geeky or exploitative story and finds the real universal and human appeal. I found him to be very much in control in good ways but letting the story go when necessary.
I'm not sure why the image changed. I liked the one of the Monster lounging around on the couch with his drinks.
“If you can make it complicated, why make it simple?” This quote from him is part of what frustrates me about him. It sounds like something a bureaucrat would say.
spot the boom mic!
Wood-Pussy
This guys needs his photo on his page here. His hair is more interesting than most of his films.
I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS ONE JUST BASED ON THE NAME AND PICTURE!!!
The greatest sketch comedy movie ever. A hilarious precursor to Airplaine! and Naked Gun that is just as good. The Enter the Dragon parody and the courtroom scene are perfect comedy.
Hahaha, I love the quote.
The third may be my favorite. Love the western theme.
