I don’t hate them.I sometimes check their way of thinking.I just hate when critics found commercial movies great and timeless. For example Crash. That’s a very “medium” movie.
I think good movies requires a goog taste plus mature people. Most of the teens aren’t mature enough. At least me, I was into movies first when I was 18.
Many people don’t like her because she dissed their favorite movies. She also hated Sophie’s choice which was a very succesful movie. But she was the first who loved Bonnie and Clyde. She is a very smart critic I believe.
How can anybody name him even good, He’s only good at making big money from very ad movies year by year. He’s a very talented businessman. He is celebreted because of big budget trash pieces.Yes he’s done effective ones but not by talent. He has the money to make modern, fast movies. Then he came out with some “war” movies and many people were shocked like “ohh this guy Spielberg is a very talented guy in making big budget adventure movies then in ohh very sad ones”. These people are the typical Spielberg fans. You don’t have to think in his films, he always gives you one solution. Films are not about make money for somebody but an art form.Okay, he’s the big guy, the real shark with billions of dollars. ……So what?
How can you rank movies? They are way different even Raging Bull and Taxi Driver. This is bullshit compare them. It’s like naming your top 5 or whatever 10 favorite movies. It’s a sin.
I loved her negative review of Rain Man. The majority adored it, and were thousands of rave reviews about Hoffman’s great performance, which is ridiculous.
What is your opinion about it?
Method acting gave us great performances, but I think it’s pathetic to prepare for a role for months and the result is usually the same as a classical actor’s result. Just look at Day-Lewis performance in Gangs of New York for example. Nothing special in it. Of course we hear he wore old coats and stuff but did it make it a better performance? I don’t think so. And we have Michael Caine who consistently plays very well although he’s not a method actor.
You can’t be serious. It is one of his worst performances and he made like 25 films. I think in many of his films the struggle to create a real character is visible which is not good for the film. I think he is great in My Left Foot oor There Will Be Blood.
He managed his career brilliantly in the 70’s and even in the 80’s but since then he starred in too many silly comedies or just bad films. I think his screen presence or persona is one of the greatest. I consider him versatile, although sometimes I just see this great person instead of the character in movies.
Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg. Especially Spielberg. The guy is an excellent businessman but nothing else.
I think Eastwood’s only good film is Mystic River, although mainly because of Sean Penn.
….and yeah, I missed James Cameron, but I don’t even consider him a director.
Personally, I think Nolan is another extremely overrated director. He’s attitudinizing.
Thanks for crystalizing, but I know the differences. The thread was made to let you decide which is more effective (you answered in the second part and I agree.)
Of course The Godfather I and II and Dog Day Afternoon. Probably no one knows about the Sea of Love, which isn’t a good film but it contains one of his most magnetic and natural performances.
Al Pacino has always managed his career much better than DeNiro. The best way to discuss it is to take their best roles.
I go like this:
Pacino in the Godfather I > DeNiro in Mean Streets
DeNiro in Taxi Driver > Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon
DeNiro in The Deer Hunter > Pacino in …And Justice
DeNiro in Raging Bull > Pacino in Scarface

Tarantino for me is not an auteur. He got a lot of influences from Peckinpah movies and many b-movies.
