Days of Heaven

Empty and absolutely uninteresting as far as I am concerned. Terribly overrated.

Amour

The top of snob filmmaking. I honestly don't get the hype his films get. The most popular director at festivals. It's easy to call his films minimalistic, but they are not. Simply lack any ideas. The static camera angles are not used in a necessary way, especially in Amour. Haneke is a very mediocre and a very opportunistic filmmaker. In Amour, the performances were great. Have to laugh at the raving comments here.

So, you dislike Haneke because of his commercial success? The static camera angles are not used necessarily or effectively? He's opportunistic how? Opportunistic in how he portrays paralysis? Lack of ideas? Should he have inserted a murder mystery sub-plot or a Lynchian Oz reference? I don't really understand what you're criticising...and, no offense, but I don't think you do either.

Django Unchained

T'was entertaining. I didn't like the music, was pretty dissonant, even by the standards of Tarantino. I think the film lacked originality. As much I like some of his previous work, I thought Django was a masterful "practice", not much more. Waltz pretty much steals most of the scenes.Neither Foxx nor Dicaprio could balance him. High quality moviemaking with no surprises. Good film.

Ordinary People

Sensitive film. It has many flaws not only technically. It's not a great movie but aged well. Timothy Hutton is a good actor but at the time of the filming he was unexperienced. Sutherland's acting is heartbreaking in some scenes. When the son wants to hug his mother and she doesn't want it, Redford's camera shows the father. Sad but memorable scene. I never really like Redford as an actor but he is a good director.

Perfect example of bad taste.

Amadeus

Ambitious project. Good actors, great music throughout, technical perfection in it's time but felt couldn't really capture Mozart's great moments. More like an attitudinizing piece.

Mighty Aphrodite

One of my favorite Allen films. Lighthearted and brilliant at times.

Mighty Aphrodite

.....Harry is far from being flawless or just to be close to his best movies but it's a valuable film. Sitting with his own characters quietly - moved me.

Stardust Memories

I don't care that this is an imitation of 8 1/2, I love this film. Allen is able to make his own 8 1/2 and it's a lot of fun. There are brilliantly composed moments.

Stardust Memories

It doesn't matter how bad his movies are, I can't take my eyes off Funes. Great character actor. Easily one of my favorite comedians.

With his instict acting, Whitaker saved this movie. At least for me. By the way loads of kitsch.

Good Morning, Vietnam

I believe Whitaker is the most gifted and natural actor of his generation along with Benicio del Toro. The film has a lot of flaws and didn't like every minute of it but overall a good experience and a great atmosphere. Watched it again right after.

Eastern Promises

Naomi Watts is truly a terrible actress.Annoying to watch her scenes. In contrast, Mueller-Stahl is a wonderful character actor.

Found it very funny. MacGowran is truly a fantastic character actor. Polanski is also effective as the student. I didn't mind the studio backgrounds, i think it has a great atmosphere. First saw it like 5 years ago and really impressed me with its comic style. Also an odd way to end the story. During the pathetic vampire-fashion of these days it's refreshing to see such a genuinely funny and enjoyable movie.

Apocalypse Now

Brilliantly filmed and casted movie. Everything is in it's place and seems right to me, although I have an empty feeling. What does this film wants to tell us? I know anti-war messages and all obvious things but when Kurtz's monologue shows how empty this film is. It's a classic though.

Angel Heart

It's funny everybody is speaking about DeNiro, but it is Rourke who played brilliantly in this film. At least for me. Nothing special this film.

Days of Heaven

Terrbly overrated film. Pretty images, landscapes and sunsets aren't enough for me. Most people think it's great art to film rare sunsets and bugs on leafs. No, it's not art. It is a fun film, but on the level of a nature film for me.It was interesting to see how terrible is Gere again. Shepard is a wonderful actor, natural and never see him 'acting'.

Days of Heaven

It's a professionally made film, good actors, good lights, cinematography and screenplay. But nothing really special. It has no message to me like most crime stories, but it was a great experience overall because I saw Darín, a great performance. The stadium chase is brilliantly made.

Reservoir Dogs

Most fun of all Tarantino movies. No need to discuss the great lines and cinematography. Harvey Keitel and Buscemi are simply great in this film.

The Wrestler

The same old meant for effect stuff by Aronofsky. Rourke shows again that he's the most talented actor of his generation, although the role made his performance look better than it actually is.

Hidden

Unimaginative film. I feel like people are afraid to tell that they were bored watching this movie and rather state it's a masterpiece. Just because Haneke made it look and sound like an art film, it's truly terrible. Perfect example of how to make a film without ideas. Haneke is truly a great businessman.

How do you know there are no ideas? Because you don't know how to interpret the film? Haneke has discussed his ideas in depth through various sources yo.

Monster's Ball

This film caught me off guard in a good way as I expected another overrated movie. All the actors are great in it, I found Boyle fantastic and impressive even though he has like 10 minutes overall. Berry's performance was alittle bit meant for effect and that's the main reason she got the oscar for it, but okay, she deserved it. Heath Ledger already showed signs of his great talent.

Monster's Ball

To be honest, I didin't expect such direction from Clooney. I liked this film, it's not an important movie but a very enjoyable andd high quality one. Sam Rockwell proved he's a talented actor. The screenplay is great, dialogues too. I liked that Clooney has so much ideas to make it an interesting piece. 3 stars.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

Very interesting project. Never seen Cusack acting this way. I think he is among the good actors, just rarely takes any serious roles. The story is smart, the screenplay's simply outstanding.

Shotgun Stories

This kind of filmmaking reminds me alot of Malick's work. And it's not a good thing. Like Malick, Nichols never takes any risks in his film, half of the running time are sunsets and nice shots of rural arkansas. The characters are always seem sad and desperate and the very good Shannon always walks like a sad kid. I felt nothing for the characters. This film supposed to be clear-out and smart, but it's simply not.

Runaway Train

On one level this is a usual action movie. Tjhe story quite average. But I found this film heartbreaking and beautiful sometimes. Jon Voight's performance is marvelous. I don't like Roberts's style but in this film he was optional. The story has no special effects but a lot of bravura shots and beautiful landscape shots. The brutality of the priosn is realistic. The performances and directing are all perfect.

The Prestige

I never liked Nolan movies. He is so meant for effect director. I think he is gifted but hasn't really learned his trade yet. This film here is full of actors whos characters don't suit them. The whole film left me dissappointed. It's techinacally brilliant as all his films but he needs all technical succes to make an influental film.Dramatically his films left holes - at least for me.He's not leading his actors well.
