I think if The Blair Witch Project got a criterion release it would be interesting. It might be a good think for the makers of that film to discuss how their simple marketing technique made it one of the most profitable independent films of all time. It’s not even a bad film, at least to me. It should be regarded as one of the most original horror works in any country’s library.
I agree with Withnail, the Blob is more of a cult b-movie that should get a bit of respect for being an outlier in the genre and being a hugely popular film in 1950s culture. Armageddon was a huge mistake and I would take the Blob as criterion before that any day. The Blob has grown to be an American culture phenomenon.
The one that everyone would love to see, but will probably never happen as long as J.D. Salinger has anything to say or do legally but…. CATCHER IN THE RYE!
I personally get mad every time I see Ordinary People when it could of been Raging Bull in 1980. I just want to see what other years people have on their minds.
They can put it out again since it was on laserdisc, but I think 3 discs may be a little much. They might not do it if they are releasing the BluRay version though.
I appreciate that response Christoper. I don’t absolutely hate the movies that snub others, I like Ordinary People but not as much as I like Ranging Bull for its more culturally significant stature in the world of film. That is a personal one that I take to heart because I still don’t see how the films compare in a race like that, but I’m sure I’m just not into it that much to make that theory. I just want to hear what people think about the Oscars because most people only hear about the best films of the year from there and I want to know what personal favorites got snubbed, or even real ones that you truly think should have never won at all. None the less, your response was very enlightening and very true, because there will always be those years where you have some of the best films all competing for a prize at that awards show.
I am very split with Brokeback Mountain. I think that Crash was a good film, but I have yet to understand where the hatred for it comes from. I can agree that the academies homophobia may have played a factor, but I don’t think Crash should be regarded as a bad film.
So a thread from earlier has people putting their list of 10 most hated films. Well I want to see if anyone has a movie that they know is horrible but for some reason can’t but liking it. A so-bad-its-good sort of thing. I can honestly admit that even though Batman & Robin was an embarrassing piece of crap I can’t help to enjoy it because Mr. Freeze is so hilarious with his horrible one-liners. Anyone else wanna be honest?
No one in my house touched my DVDs and BluRays. I love movies for art and passion while everyone else wants it just to kill time. So when i have things like Criterion editions movies, the rest of my family has a boxset for Transformers. (Oh, and they all hate me now for saying Transformers 2 is a giant piece of dog crap!)
T2 is hands down the greatest, thought the other films you all have mentioned are great as well. Also, I hate Micheal Bay, but The Rock is a fine damn movie in the action/thiller section. That is the only good credit I give him.
Gregory Nava’s El Norte. It begins to give you a bit of hope and then it comes crashing down in the worse of ways. Also, all 7 and a half hours of Satantano.

I would go with The Last Emperor or Amadues. The past couple of years have had great films, but not to the point of masterpiece, or at least yet.

Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, mostly because the concept is too absurd to believe and it may be too depressing to witness onscreen in any way.
