Naruse takes time. I didn't really "get him", pertaining to why he was sometimes placed in the same conversation as Ozu, Mizoguchi or Kurosawa as the best Japanese cinema has to offer, until I saw "Mother". That was around the 20th or so film I'd seen from him. I've seen somewhere around 45 films from him now, but have still yet to see a single film he made between 1938-1949. So he has quite a vast career. 37 years of excellence.
I discovered Pilz by accident. I had some money for once, and went to that Edition-filmmuseum website because of the Benning and just fooled around on it until I saw the Pilz documentary. It sparked my interest and I decided to buy it. I really can't wait to see those two films, now! Bellavista Looks really interesting, too.
Ah, still haven't seen it. That should really change...
Hey, I'm just taking what the film gave me... Which is oddly my philosophy towards... uhhh... well, you know...
