I'm in awe of Malick as a filmmaker. Even his less-than-perfect works always bring to me at least one genuine chill of Divine recognition. And in the dark of the theater my heart breaks open... just a little. The trailer for this film is so beautiful, & I can’t wait to see the film. It’s not about high expectations, awards or acclaim. No matter what I know I’ll leave the theater feeling…changed. He is a true artist.
I thought this was a great idea for a film, and was really looking forward to it. Clooney, MacGregor, Kevin Spacey & Jeff Bridges... what's not to like? I was mildly amused, but overall I was really disappointed. The pacing was strange & meandering, Ewan MacGregor was miscast, and the other great actors weren't given much to work with either. The script was not as funny as it needed to be, and the production design was un-thrilling. There was an awful lot of beige to look at...
