Just a beautiful film. I had been wanting to see it for many years and always got distracted by life. As an admitted Rusophile, this film is even more fantastic when put into the context of when it was conceived. I wish they made films like thhis still.
personally, I believe this film to be one of, if not the greatest film of all time. The story, the acting, the scenery, Carne's carnivalesque aspirations. Even in this world of desired imediate gratification, this film, despite being three hours long, never slows, not once. Fantastic.
Many may not be able to see past the overt sexuality in his films, but the incredible political aspects put him far and above many in my eyes. The scenes on the boat; surrounded by her "boys," the photos of political figureheads, the helm head of Marx on the boat. A truly fantastic film, especially when considering what Makavejev was living with during this era...
wonderful
God, I was conceived in the wrong era...oh well, nothing I can do about it now...
Strange, I worked on a farm in Sweden, and whenever I brought up the humor in this film, my Swedish audiences were confused. The consensus was that there is no humor in the Seventh Seal? Whatever, I think it's pretty humorous.
