About Me

We’d go out together…
We’d go by at a hundred miles an hour…
Then we’d have an accident… a big one.
We’d lose a lot of blood.
Your blood would mix with mine…
in the asphalt.
Then a flower would grow…
in the asphalt… un-extractable,
un-breakable, un-stompable…
Wouldn’t you like that?…

Between Sweet and Salt Water

A genuine masterpiece by Michel Brault - Claude Gauthier and Geneviève Bujold are simply magnificent! About the ending, I always felt the reason the film went back to Claude's Native girlfriend was to show that despite his sad situation, it's her who is left with the short end of the stick. Sort of like how even when the French-Canadian situation is bad, the Natives' situation is worse.

I am from the Northeast US, but my family comes from Maine and Quebec. French Canadiens were routinely called "Pea Soups" because of the Habitant brand. Habitant is more commonly used as a reference to the residents of Quebec.

Wondered if you are French Canadian? Saw your mention of Québécois and was compelled to ask. Great lists, by the way.

I thought that was it, but I wasn't quite sure, not particularly familiar with the expression to be honest (and now I know why Campbell Canada's soup is called Habitant, ha)! But yes, I am. Nice selections of favorites, by the way!
