What was the technique used for the backgrounds?
Absolutely brilliant.
The most beautiful woman who ever lived.
Beautiful, melancholy film. I only wish director Cyrill Schläpfer had continued to make films after this. I feel we've been robbed of a great body of work.
YES!!!! Allan King Eclipse set is slated for release Sept. 21!!!! King's genius will finally be realized.
The greatest documentary filmmaker who ever lived. Rest in peace Mr. King. Your films have affected me in ways I never thought possible. Absolute genius.
I really hated this film. Sorry Mr. Demme.
RIP Mark Linkous. Genius.
Waste of celluloid. Absolute rubbish.
Watch it here along with many other Colin Low films: http://www.nfb.ca/film/city_of_gold/
Incredibly underrated filmmaker. His techniques were groundbreaking and changed the face of the documentary film. His film *Universe* was the main inspiration for 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Kubrick even famously asked Low to come work on the film with him.In a perfect world, there would be a CC set of all his films. I'm trying to add as many films as possible, but info is hard to come by.
Harrowing, Brilliant film. Easily ranks among the 5 or 10 greatest documentaries ever made.
Finally added! This short is incredibly beautiful. It won the Palme D'or short subject at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival. Watch it here:http://www.nfb.ca/film/corral/ There's other Colin Low films for free there too.
I'm working on getting all of Clarke's films submitted to the database. So far I've gotten Elephant and Made In Britain added, and I just submitted all the info for Scum and Rita Sue and Bob Too. I'll keep adding more as I find info.
One of my top 10 films of all time. Beautiful beyond words.
Tim Roth's performance ranks among the greatest of all time. He IS Van Gogh.
In my opinion, the greatest actress of all time.
Elephant, Made In Britain, Rita Sue and Bob Too, Scum, his episodes of Screenplay (Especially Christine)... Brilliant underrated filmmaker. His style is so influential yet barely anyone outside of Britain is aware of his incredible body of work.
My second favorite animated film of all time. Amazing.
Hey my suggestion came through! This is a brilliant film by the vastly underrated Clarke. You can watch the entire film on Google video.
El Sur really needs to be added to the Auteurs.
This wonderful film was my introduction to Ozu, and I've been hooked ever since. One of the most human films I've ever seen. Vastly superior to the late period Good Morning.
Poor attempt at making "thought-provoking" cinema. Simply awful.
Masterpiece. My favorite ending ever.
What a beautiful film. The music is amazing too.
I'm with Joe Bowman, why is this on The Auteurs? This is a terrible film.
Masterpiece...pure and simple.
