Minimalists are mystics.
How much does this owe to the great artist Chuck Jones?
Can't wait. The New York Spankees in the greatest choke job in baseball history at the hands of my beloved Red Sox.
When he gave the kid the sailboat you knew he was asking for trouble. So convincing without ever being sentimental. A shame he didn't make more films.
I saved my 3D glasses from this one. Got them in a shoebox in the closet. Fun movie from a reat showman
Great MUBI
The ultimate cult film?
Hey Criterion, 'bout time you issued a "B". This one's a beaut and the lead is genuinely menacing. Genuine matinee classic.
If La Moreau is going to appear in couture, I wish it hadn't been as a blond.
Great social commentary and comedy. I just imagine my niece put in the situation where she wouldn't be allowed admission to a Red Sox/Yankees game. A small gem.
Doesn't meet the minimal requirements for minimalism.
Some films are so bad that they're just bad. Then there are others that are so bad they're great fun.
There will always be Zorro and he will always be played by Douglas Fairbanks. Terrific athletic actor.
Gus, was this ego exercise necessary?
If the film maintained the level of the scenes in Dracula's castle it would have been an all time great. "The creatures of the night. What music they make"
Should get an extra star for Myron McCormick's unheralded supporting role.
A couple of slackers so inept and loveable that even Antoine Doinel would tip his cap. Very funny film.
The children of Marx and coca-cola turned out a little lamer than even Godard expected.
The scene on the Staten Island ferry is so bleak. The films greatest fault is that for all of its realism it just piles on a little too much.
Sometimes bad films are so bad they're good. Sometimes they're so bad, they're bad.
From Melville (Herman, not Jean-Pierre) to "Dances with Wolves" and with Tarzan in between, the story is old. So a marine goes native and there's a big fight. Now that's some original theme, but there's lots of visual tracking and after District 9 really didn't deliver the goods ... it will have its fan base.
That CGI of Kong loose in New York City looked terrible. There was not a moment that could stand with the shot in the original when he sticks he appears in front of the train. But I suppose a classic like King Kong just wasn't fully appreciated without a Peter Jackson homage featuring Jack Black. A travesty.
Otis, my man!
It works as comedy.
Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea one last time showing how it's done "old school". For the ages.
And forever damn the studio suits for making him tack on that ending.
"I'm working on eight million and you're still working on eight seconds". Love that line.
Hard to say why I like this film so much. Watching it your whole being is still. Maybe it's the little scene when she last sees her husband and he moves sort of like The Little Tramp. Just one of those times when you know someone just plain got it right.
Has Resnais ever acknowledged how much he owes to her? Tell me there isn't just a bit of the foundation of Marienbad here. Just a superb director.
I'll never be able to be objective about this film. It captures a Boston I remember. One that's long gone and ain't coming back and I'm glad they got this down so right.
