Yes, i've wanted to see it for a long time. You can tell me how it is :p
Really disappointing. The interview clips with the experts on knife fighting are way more interesting than this film.
28/100 Sherlock Holmes martial arts film. The detective elements take much of the film. I was a bit confused, to be honest, and I didn't really care about the characters. I didn't care for the way Hark shot the action sequences, as i was a little too crazy and hard to make sense of.
Timely movie for Americans, as the middle class seems to shrink and more people enter poverty. The spirit of *The Friends of Eddie Coyle* is in this film. The ending was a bit much, though.
Now streaming on netlflix.
First, I'd recommend no as little as possible going in (so don't read the description above). Next, I would say that if your a fan of thrillers/mysteries, but have seen many of them, this is a decent pick--although I don't think it's a great film.
This is going to be screening in a few weeks. Anyone think I should see this?
Reminiscent of films like *On the Waterfront* and *Mr. Smith Goes to Washington*, but the B-level element of the film like the acting and the overall quality served to highlight Kazan and Capra's skill as filmmakers. (The film also reminded me of *Defiance* (1980), with Jan Michael Vincent and Danny Aiello.)
You can be known as the casino with a heart.
Just saw this for the first time since college. It's a very good film, but somehow it's diminished in some way. (Maybe the point doesn't have as much impact as it once did for me?)
OK, not a great movie, but I really liked the Robert Redford's character in this, and I was surprised and impressed by Redford's comedic ability.
Sometimes you're just not on the same wavelength of a film. That's the case with me for this film. Hopefully, mubians can help me out with this one.
Can porn be art? This might be one example--an avant-garde porn comedy no less. It was as if the director took the extended (no pun intended) the erotic-comedic moments of *Tampopo* into a film. Loved the non-dialogue approach combined with the musical numbers. Very cool visuals as well. Not recommended viewing with your grandma, though.
Is this on dvd? Any recommendations on how I can see this?
I read this as an excoriation of the callousness of the privileged.
Good acting. The mumblecore fans would like this.
Mark Duplass and Rhett Atkins have some solid comedic moments; there some decent scenes, but the movie was just OK.
I liked Gerwig's performance in this. The visuals are not very interesting
I really liked the direction and the spirit behind this.
I heard the Fresh Air interview before I saw this (which I liked) and I feel like the film didn't really add much more (at least for me).
Not sure why I liked this as much as I did, but...I did.
Had potential. Liked that Scott spent time trying to develop the relationship between Creasey and the girl; did not completely like the results. Action (torture) sequences and any subplots pretty boring after that. Denzel wasn't great in this role, either.
An ethereal and boy-meets-girl romance--with a more subtle treatment of "romance." Think of a more realistic and restrained version of *Before Sunrise*. The word sublime comes to mind. Thanks to the those that recommend Aaron Katz!
Solid performances, but it would have been better had they focused on the relationship between the King and his therapist.
Love Matthau in this as well as the chemistry with Tatum O'Neal. If there's one flaw about the film that I wish could be changed, it's the scene where the opposing coach slaps the pitcher. That was a bit over-the-top, and the filmmakers could have found a more subtle way to achieve the same effect.
If the Coen Brothers are not religious, this film could have fooled me. I don't think I've seen a comedy, or even a drama, address really difficult theological questions (like the problem of pain) in such a satisfying way. The film absolutely refuses any easy answers and it should be commended for that. It's also funny and serious--which is not a small accomplishment.
I remember watching this and thinking back on it, it was utterly terrible--EXCEPT, it has a cool animated short with Boba Fett. Indeed, I bet this animated short contributed to the huge let down of seeing Boba Fett in *Empire* and *Return of the Jedi*.
I like him. I hope he gets good leading roles.
Cool. I gotta check this out.
Good video for school.
I liked that he eschewed cgi. A solid action-adventure tale in the old Cecil B. DeMille mode.
