Armageddon would definitely have to be the worst. There really is no competition. Another one that I’m not really a huge fan of is Chasing Amy. Apparently I hate Ben Affleck.
We definitely need some more Cronenburg. Specifically Existenz and Eastern Promises (whenever the time is right, I know it just came out). Other than that, Peter Jackson’s Meet The Feebles is deserving of a good release and I’m sure there is plenty of bonus stuff just waiting to be unveiled for that one. David Lynch deserves some, even though I’m not much of a fan. Maybe Criterion should whip out a sweet copy of the Twin Peaks movie, or even the pilot. I understand that the pilot is relatively hard to find. A George Melies colleciotn would be nice, as well as a Kenneth Anger and/or Maya Deren collection. The Kuchar Brothers and Bruce Conner are also very deserving of collections. I’d love to see some Jean-Pierre Jeunet Guillermo Del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron. And lets not forget the biggest Criterion let down to date…Pedro Almodovar!!!!!! How in the world does Michael Bay have two and Almodovar have none. Come on guys, we need it. Live Flesh, Matador, What Have I Done To Deserve This, Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Tie Me Up Tie Me Down, these are some of the greatest movies ever made! Anyone else? Jon Waters, Martin Scorsese, P.T. Anderson, Danny Boyle and definitely a little Guy Ritchie. Give us a sweet copy of Lock, Stock and Two Smokin’ Barrels, or Punch Drunk Love, or Sunshine, or Female Trouble.

I loved The Orphanage, maybe it could be Criterion one day. Day Of The Dead deserves a good release. Event Horizon would be good. Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer would be great too.
Alright, what do you guys think? Is this the year that Hollywood’s obsession with comic book adaptations went one step too far? Here’s a quick list of adaptations:
Iron Man
The Dark Knight
The Spirit
The Incredible Hulk
Punisher: War Zone
Hellboy: The Golden Army
Sure, 3 or 4 of them were great, but how many good names have to be soiled in order for this machine to reach critical mass?
It seems that a lot of people on these forums dislike Robocop. My question is, have you even seen it? Robocop is one of the most overlooked masterpieces of 1980s action, social commentary and post-modern dissidence. The world of hyper-violence that Paul Verhoeven creates in this futuristic tale is truly unmatched for it’s time. I beg all of the naysayers to revisit this film, or at least visit it for the first time, and to dismiss it’s atrocious sequels and knock-offs.
If TheAuters.com didn’t want Robocop to be discussed on their website they wouldn’t have given it a profile. I titled this “Why all the hate?” not because I was looking for hatred, but because I wanted to be able to give this brilliant and relevant film due process. I was reading in multiple forums that people seemed to consider it to be one of the worst Criterion releases, and I thought that Robocop deserved a chance to be taken seriously again.
City Girl (if that is your real name), if you didn’t want to join this discussion, than you should have went about your business before you started dumbing down the rest of us. You tell me to go find a Robocop forum, I did. Here.
Any and every film is entitled to an orderly, scholarly and academic discussion. If you don’t believe that, than you should go back to imdb.
