Thanks for responding to my comment on the Slumdog Millionaire thread. In response to your comment, I don't actually believe that all films have to be political. My problem with this film specifically, as well as many films made about developing or third world countries involving serious issues recently, is their simplistic endings. By allowing viewers to leave a theater with nothing on their minds but a happy love story ending and a boy who becomes rich through a game show, the viewer is not asked to think about the real issues that had been presented earlier in the film. No action has to be taken and we are given the sense that the problems of the world, these countries, and all the people in them can be solved through two people falling in love. That is what I consider dangerous. If a film is not about such important issues, I don't necessarily expect it to be political, especially in genre films, but a film like this needs more substance. But that's a very humble and ignorant opinion so take it for what it's worth. Anyways, thanks again for your time and interest.
