come and see was fantastic, in that it was about more than the war, and the massacre. but his own life, the death of his wife was heavy on his mind when making the film. what did you think of the color of pomegranetes? a real favourite of mine! talking of films about unfortunate children, have you seen the spanish film, spirit of the beehive? it is sort of like landscape in the mist, in an inverted way. what else have you been watching?
aside from the obvious tarkovsky, i would point to the ascent, made by the wife of the director of come and see, larisa shepitko. it is superb and come and see borrows a lot from the imagery and even a tiny bit of the shots. also i would look at paradjanov from the 60s, his colour and his whole way of treating film as this ghostly form of expression traps me everytime. and landscape in the mist, you loved it too?:D
i am doing fine, working hard and really quite busy but like that too. you should try and see if you can get that as your username! you like come and see then? does it make you interested in other russian films like it?
